Not that I want to take in homeless lizards around the neighborhood. But, when I see a tiny one, right in front of me, on the hood of Gerry's moving car, I think a quick-stop and rescue is in order. Of course, Gerry being the rescuer, while I observe from inside the car. Hey, someone had to be responsible for taking photos of the handy rescue. Rescues are tricky, as a rule, and this was no different. Gerry, pulled into the nearest drive, which happened to be a nearby Sunoco station. T.L. (Tiny Lizard) was hunkered down on the hood with all his might. G rounded the front of the car, lunged to the side of the car, and in one swift movement...clamped hands over lizard. Here's where it gets tricky (doesn't it always?). Happily snapping his hands, G's back was suddenly toward me...there was T.L., happily hitching a ride. With a shriek (I do this when I see a lizard on a person's back), I dropped the camera on the floor, opened the car door to calmly (nope) alert G to the current reptilian situation. Gerry, who really is calm under pressure...spun around slowly, shook his shirt and returned to the car. Yeah, all those years he played with bugs and outdoor-dwellers in various forms really comes in handy. The moral? Stopping to save a lizard today, most likely, was a direct result of guilt stemming from the actions of our beautiful CKCS (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel)...who took out a tiny lizard the other day. All things are equal in nature, right? --Pam It happens every 30 minutes or so (when a tall boat needs passage). Up goes the drawbridge on US 1 near Old Port Cove. When it's twilight, and you aren't waiting in traffic for the bridge to close, it's really makes for a nice photo, don't you think? -- Gerry This bird stopped in North Palm to wait out a heavy rain. Fortunately, it didn't last long and he was soon on his merry way. (Photo by North Palm Life).
It's always good to see a new business come to North Palm Beach. Today was the grand opening of The French Gourmand in the Crystal Tree shopping center off US Highway 1. Stepping inside is like a trip to France, with its selection of wines, cheeses and fresh bakery items. Stop in and say hello to the proprietaire, Laurent Bressan. -- Gerry It's the end of the workweek and Mother Nature gave us a break from the heat and humidity with a sudden thunderstorm, as so often occurs in our tropical region. No doubt it will pass on, and back to the heat. But thanks for the respite. Have a great weekend! -- Gerry Good food, good drink and good prices: The perfect formula for a good happy hour. P.F. Chang's at the Gardens Mall has all three. Read more about it here.
Looking for Carmine's Gourmet Market? Just follow the long line of cars streaming into the parking lot at PGA and Prosperity Farms Rd. Always busy, now that season is here they need traffic control. And why not? Besides the restaurants, the market has anything you can wish for in food, drink, spirits, fish and bakery.
One of our favs is the prepared food section, where the selections of main course and side dishes stretch around two corners. Here you can score dinner for one -- a main course and two generous sides -- for only $8. It's a steal of a deal. Dinner for two is even better. -- Gerry Looking for a lunch spot, preferably dockside, with a view of shimmering blue waters and yachts you'll never own (just speaking for me)? Head on over to Sailfish Marina Resort on Singer Island, located at 98 Lake Drive. We opted for outdoor dining in one of super-comfy Adirondack chairs, where the water views were divine, and so was the breeze. Lunch was a grilled chicken sandwich and an order of fish and chips. Both came with fries, and for the latter, a side of cole slaw. The chicken was grilled just right; the fish a crunchy delight. Valet parking is complimentary, and they are open for both lunch and dinner. Mark this down -- we'll be back. -- Gerry It has many names, actually. Beach hair. South Florida hair. Puffy hair. Crazy hair. Wild hair. Living in North Palm Beach, near the Atlantic Ocean, is a gift is so many ways. Having beautifully controlled hair is not one, for me. Yes, I have longish-hair, and chopping it off could make a difference. For now, I continue to purchase every hair product out there, but mostly I scrunch it, and go. Let the hair fly, and the sea breeze blow in our faces: Gotta dash! -- Pam |
