2024 Event (Press Release) (Lake Worth, FL) – Step up to the start line and join the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County for its 11th Annual Heroes for Education 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, October 5. Enthusiastic runners, walkers, volunteers, and supporters of education will rally together at John Prince Park to promote wellness while raising funds and awareness for the Foundation's programming, grant opportunities, and initiatives that make a difference in the lives of students and teachers in the School District of Palm Beach County. The morning will have races for all ages, including the Kids 100-Yard Dash, Kids 1-Mile Fun Run and the School Mascot Dash. Participants can enjoy lively entertainment, refreshments, and connect with local sponsors and vendors, making it a spirited event for the whole family.
“We are thrilled to bring together our education heroes at the 11th Annual Heroes for Education 5K,” said James Gavrilos, President and CEO of the Education Foundation. “The event is the perfect opportunity to get active and support our mission to enrich the educational experience for students. We are deeply grateful to every participant, sponsor and volunteer whose dedication helps us race toward a brighter future for education.” Awards will be given in various categories, including the Heroes Awards for the largest participating school teams, the fastest school teams, as well as overall and age group winners. The School Mascot Dash will be participating school mascots racing to raise money for their schools. Registration will begin at 6 a.m. for the races at the following times.
The 11th Annual 5k Run/Walk sponsors include UnitedHealthcare, Optum, Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, Tanger, Keiser University, CORE Construction, HSS, Palm Beach Orthopedic Institute, Raising Cane’s, B&I Contractors, Coca-Cola Beverages Florida, NCCI and Gold Coast Federal Credit Union. The Education Foundation of Palm Beach County was founded in 1984 and serves as a nexus between the county’s public schools and the community. The Foundation awards grants, supports innovative programs and scholarships, and provides necessary school supplies and resources from Red Apple Supplies, the Foundation’s signature program. The Education Foundation operates over 100 programs which close achievement gaps in learning, prepare students for post-secondary success and create positive, measurable change for over 100,000 students. The entrance to John Prince Park is located at 4756 South Congress Avenue in Lake Worth. Participants can enter the park at the intersection of South Congress Avenue and Prince Drive. Registration fees are $35 for the 5K Run/Walk, $25 for School District students, teachers, and employees with ID, $20 for the Kids 1-Mile Fun Run and $15 for the Kids 100-Yard Dash.
