As Sunshine State residents, we all know the importance of tourism. And no one knows that better than VISIT FLORIDA, the state's official tourism marketing corporation. Their latest effort to promote everything Florida has to offer is pretty cool -- the Florida Attractions Finder, which debuted today.
Here is more from the press release: "VISIT FLORIDA today unveiled the Florida Attractions Finder, an interactive vacation planning tool that allows travelers to virtually experience their Florida thrills from a front-row seat. Point-of-view videos send users careening and diving on the newest roller coasters, zip-lining over alligators (look down if you dare), and skimming the Everglades aboard an airboat. Whether visitors are looking for a first-time Florida experience or wishing to repeat their favorite Florida vacation moment, the Florida Attractions Finder puts the power of discovery in the user’s hands." There's also this: "The Florida Attractions Finder aggregates images of different attractions based on changes made to the dial settings. Four separate settings can be adjusted depending on the user’s vacation preferences: from thrill to chill, popular to hidden gem, high-tech to natural, and days to hours. The interface then matches the user with an attraction, which could be an internationally recognized theme park or an off-the-beaten path experience." The Finder currently features 130 attractions, with more coming soon: "This summer, another 50 attractions will be added to the Finder and future plans will allow users to submit videos and compete for viewers’ choice awards." The Florida Attractions Finder can be accessed here: VISITFLORIDA.com/attractionsfinder Writing about 3800 Ocean at the Marriot Resort on Singer Island is almost, not quite, as much fun as partaking of the great food and drink. The guys on the frontlines, the smiling faces taking care to make us feel welcome, are only part of the story. Working diligently behind the scenes to help insure things are clicking like, well, clockwork, are the more covert cogs. The staff, so efficient, they make it all seem effortless to the customers. So, from backstage, we pull Giovanni Isaza, Food and Beverage Supervisor, into the spotlight of center stage. Like a blur, he buzzes around the fringes of the scene at 3800. With quiet efficiency, he checks in with staff, almost unnoticed .. .except his quiet good-looks and engaging smile make it impossible for him to go unnoticed. He exudes an air of calm as he speaks in hushed tones with staff. He is unobtrusive, yet there for the team. Although extremely busy, he recently agreed to a little sit-down with me. Even though he was taking a few minutes with me, he seated himself so he could keep an eye on the area, and several times was needed to answer staffing questions. But then, very politely gave me his undivided attention and I quizzed him on supervising such a constantly spinning cog as food and beverage. Just how did he deal with the frenzy and occasional calm that comprises the hospitality business? "Just work and treat everyone with respect. It is everything." Isaza said. Apparently, that simple formula is working out for him. After a stint in the Air Force, he began a new journey as a server. Quickly, he realized the hospitality field was meant for him, and he worked his way up to management. "I enjoy all aspects of the job," Isaza said, with a sincere smile. Even during the hectic months in the Palm Beaches, he enjoys what he does. "Yes, things get hectic during season. It's busy, busy, busy. But, we have a great family feeling here, and we try to engage with the guests." After I offered my opinion of the consistent level of good service we have received at 3800, he nodded, and said, "Yes, we really have the A-Team at the bar." When he is not busy helping to keep food and beverages flowing at the Marriott, he spends time relaxing at home with his two dogs. "They are my life." Regarding his own personal taste in beverages, when asked there was no hesitation. "Pinot Noir." Giovanni Isaza, you have good taste! --Pam |
