(PRESS RELEASE)_The shelling on the islands around Marco Island is awesome. It certainly rivals Sanibel and is considered, by serious shellers, to be superior. The islands are strewn with shells but they can only be accessed by boat or watercraft. So, they don’t get picked over daily with 1000’s beach-goers. Shelling in the Marco area is a “secret gem” of the shelling world ... one that relatively few get to experience. Marco Island Boat Tours (www.MarcoIsland-BoatTours) is pleased to announce Seashell Saturdays … a weekly video series on different, frequently asked and frequently overlooked shelling topics. Seashell Saturdays launches this Saturday, the 22nd on the shelling community Facebook page Gulf Coast Shelling … www.Facebook.com/GulfCoastShelling. (PRESS RELEASE)_West Palm Beach, Fla. – (December 13, 2018) - With pools, beaches and year-round swimming weather, Florida's drowning death rate among children ages 1-4 is the highest in the nation according to the USA Swimming Foundation. Due to this unnerving and unfortunate statistic, the YMCA of the Palm Beaches is committed to drowning prevention. The community facility offers all children ages two and older who are registered at their preschool FREE swimming lessons. According to the foundation, 80 percent of childhood drownings involved children under the age of 5 just last year alone, and states that formal swim lessons reduce the likelihood of childhood drowning by 88 percent. “We urge families to take advantage of this life-saving benefit in order to give children the tools they need to feel, and be, safer in and around water,” said Tim Coffield, President and CEO of YMCA of the Palm Beaches. In addition, the YMCA of the Palm Beaches Preschool implements an ongoing program of activities that promote the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of children ages 2-5. The newly enhanced 2019 preschool curriculum weaves the Y’s values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility into all they do, and believe the skills and values learned in early life are the building blocks for a happy, healthy, centered life. Rooted in a nurturing and safe environment with stellar staffing, the YMCA of the Palm Beaches’ Preschool is second-to-none when it comes to making the hard-pressed decision of choosing the right preschool. 2019 Registration is now open for 2’s, 3’s, VPK, and aftercare. New students will receive free school supplies and a drawstring bag. As a sign-up bonus, YMCA will waive joining fees for families now through February 2019. An Open House is scheduled for Saturday, January 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes preschool tours, fun prizes and more. This event is FREE and open to the public. For more details on curriculum, pricing, hours of operation, VPK enrollment and aftercare, or to schedule a tour, please contact Stephen Hagberg, Childcare Coordinator, at (561) 727-3774. (PRESS RELEASE)_The Village of North Palm Beach Sanitation Division is changing pick-up days for vegetative yard debris and for bulk items.
Starting in January, collection days for yard debris are changing to Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for all single-family homes in North Palm Beach. Collection of bulk items (such as appliances) is changing to Tuesdays for multi-unit properties, and to Thursdays for all single-family homes. The pick-up days for regular household trash and for recycling materials are not changing for any residents. Essentially, the changes are just a swap of the pick-up days of the affected items. The changes will allow Village crews to clear weekend yard clippings of the street more often (and one day sooner) and will allow more efficient scheduling of staff and collection vehicles.
