Doug and Ann Brown (Press Release) February 18, 2026 (WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.) — The Armory Art Center recently celebrated a special night of the arts at its premier fundraising event “Art Throwdown” on Friday, February 6 at its historic campus in West Palm Beach. Chaired by co-chairs Lynn Feld and Linda Silpe, Art Throwdown encouraged guests to enjoy a casual, art-filled evening with live entertainment, heavy bites from local restaurants, and signature Throwdown cocktails. Attendees also strolled through the Armory’s galleries to see the Annual Student & Faculty Exhibition on display and participated in a silent auction. The most exciting part of the night? Four local artists going head-to-head in a 90-minute challenge.
With a shared supply table and a “mystery box” of unusual materials, artists were forced to work swiftly and create a unique masterpiece while the clock ticked. After the competition cooled down, guests had the opportunity to vote for their favorite artwork. Amy Kutell of Coral Gables was crowned the 2026 champion. Mainly working in oil, Amy enjoys plein air painting and capturing the ever changing South Florida light. She also works as a full-time art teacher. Next year she will come back to defend her title against four new artists. Proceeds from the exhibition art sales were split between the artists and the Armory. Proceeds from the Art Throwdown event support the Armory’s mission to inspire the creation and experience of art through art programming for all ages and skill levels, youth and teen programs and camps, veterans art programs, art exhibitions, events and more for the Palm Beach County community.
