(Press Release) Boca Raton, FL (April 6, 2026) — As part of Boca Helping Hands' (BHH) mission to help individuals and families improve their quality of life and build financial stability, the organization offers a number of workforce development programs, including a Commercial Driver’s License Program. The training is free for qualified candidates, and it requires a Level 1 background screening test. The demand for qualified Commercial Drivers is high, especially following the February closure of more than 550 commercial driving schools in the U.S. that train truckers and bus drivers. The U.S. Department of Transportation ordered the closures after investigators found they employed unqualified instructors, failed to adequately test students, and had other safety issues. “Not only do our workforce development programs provide our clients with solid careers and economic advancement, we are also filling a demand for workers at a critical time,” said Boca Helping Hands Executive Director, Dr. Andrew Hagen. “We make sure that the people who enroll in the free program will be safe and knowledgeable drivers.”
Boca Helping Hands partners with accredited The CDL School, Inc. in South Florida to train students so that they can earn a Class A Commercial Driver’s License or a Class B Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and School Bus endorsements. The Class A CDL Job Placement Program provides students with a 192-hour master program to drive truck-tractors, semi-trailers or trucks, and trailers to gain entry level employment. The Class B CDL Job Placement Program provides students with a total of 64 hours of training on skills and road exercises and is designed to guide students through the final steps of their training and get them into the workforce, in positions in passenger transport, schools bus driving, transit operations, and other Class B roles. Additional financial support may be offered to eligible, enrolled students on a case-by-case basis to enable them to support themselves while taking the course. “At Boca Helping Hands, maintaining a safe and supportive environment is central to our mission. As a key component of our Workforce Development programs, all candidates complete a Level 1 Background Check, a standard screening through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement that reviews state and local records,” said Trina Chin Cheong, Director of Workforce Development. “This process helps prepare participants for workforce expectations while ensuring the integrity and safety of our programs. Every incoming student is considered thoughtfully, reflecting our commitment to both accountability and second chances.” Applicants must already have a CDL Class A or B Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP), and a current DOT Physical Card. Participants must be 21 or older, have a high school diploma or GED (in English), have a valid driver’s license and Social Security card. Students enrolled in the program start by participating in a Job Readiness program. Program graduates are provided with job leads and assistance with job placement is offered upon graduation. Graduates work with BHH Job Mentors to update or create resumes, practice mock interviews, and learn how to navigate employment sites for open positions. One Workforce Development alumnus of the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Program shared how BHH prepared them for their career, saying, “As a CDL driver, there are so many different paths and opportunities available. There is always something bigger and better to work toward. I now have a career that offers advancement, financial stability, and the chance to keep improving myself professionally.” For more information on the program, visit bocahelpinghands.org/workforcedevelopment or call 561-417-0913.
