LECTURES ArtSpeaks – Good Humor: Caricature and Satire from Leonardo to Levine – 6 p.m. Friday, December 5. Join Nadine Orenstein, Ph.D., Drue Heinz Curator in Charge of the Department of Drawings and Prints at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, as she explores the history of caricature and satire in art from the 16th to the 19th centuries in honor of the Norton’s special exhibition, The Virtue of Vice: The Art of Social Commentary. Cost: Museum admission/Members free. Curator Conversation – Flowers in Chinese Paintings – 6 p.m. Friday, December 12. Join Shawn Yuan, Elizabeth B. McGraw Senior Curator of Asian Art, for a talk exploring the rich and enduring tradition of flower painting in China. Celebrated not only for their beauty but also for their deep symbolic meanings, flowers have long held a special place in Chinese art. This talk will highlight key works by major artists in Chinese art history, including those currently on view in La Florida: Flowers in Chinese Paintings. A brief tour of the installation will follow. Cost: Museum admission/Members FREE. ART CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS Family Autism Art Workshop – 1 – 2 p.m. Sunday, December 7 (K – 6th grades) and 3 – 4 p.m. (7th – 12th grades). The program includes interactive time in the galleries, an art workshop, free admission to the Museum, and autism supports. All participating staff members are trained to lead programs for people with autism. Space is limited; online registration required. This is a free program. Family Studio: Art & Stories from Our Community – 11 a.m.-12:20 p.m. or 1-2:20 p.m. Saturday, December 13. Families will explore how stories and visual art come together to reflect the voices, experiences, and imagination of our community. Inspired by the Norton’s Collection and the work of creatives from our region, participants will create their own art and stories that honor the rich culture and talent all around us. Children ages 5 – 12, and their accompanying grown-ups, participate in a 15-minute spotlight tour, followed by a related art workshop. Free program.
