Art & Independence: America at 250 – July 4-December 6.
(Press Release) ​The Norton Museum of Art is at 1450 S. Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach. Admission: Free for Members; $18, general public; $15, seniors (60+); $5, students (with valid school ID); $10 Art After Dark, adults and seniors, $5, students. ART AFTER DARK
Art After Dark – 5-10 p.m. Fridays. Norton Museum of Art, 1450 S. Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach. Admission: Free for Members; $10 for adults and seniors; $5 for students. First Friday of the month is Jazz Friday. Tours are 5 and 7 p.m. Open Studio art workshops are 6-9 p.m. Artist tours are 8 p.m. the third Friday of the month. Info: (561) 832-5196 or www.norton.org.

Enjoy a performance by the Cateura Recycled Orchestra, a selection of short films amplifying diverse voices, and an electrifying fashion show spotlighting adaptive design.   • July 24 – Florida Roots night with films by Florida filmmakers and Lowkey duo.
  • July 31 – Improv Night with Sick Puppies Comedy.

LECTURES
ArtSpeaks – 6-7 p.m. Friday, July 3. Erica Grant, Director of Curatorial Affairs at the Historical Society of Palm Beach County on Palm Beach County: Origins and Culture. Space is limited; online registration required. Cost: Museum admission/Members free.

ArtSpeaks – 6-7 p.m. Friday, July 10. Color consultant Jason C. Bemis – ArtNatureFlow. Discover how elements like color, light, and space influence mood and well-being through various art forms. Space is limited; online registration required. Cost: Museum admission/Members free.

A Closer Look – 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, July 29. Join Quincy Bruckerhoff to take a closer look at RAW artist Njideka Akunyili Crosby and her works in the exhibition Recognition of Art by Women: In Retrospect. Space is limited; online registration required. Cost: Museum admission/Members free.

CLASSES
Family Studio | Galloping Through Art – 11 a.m.-12:20 p.m. or 1-2:20 p.m. Saturdays, July 11, 18, 25. Children ages 5 – 12 and their
grown-ups enjoy a 15-minute tour followed by an art workshop. Each weekend offers a new experience. Discover Galloping Steed: Celebrating the Year of the Horse in Chinese Paintings. See how artists depict horses’ movement and grace through bold lines and brushstrokes, then make your own horse-inspired art in the studio. Space is limited; online registration required. Cost: Museum admission/Members free.

Family Autism Art Workshop – 1-2 p.m. (K-6th grade) and 3-4 p.m. (7th-12th grade) Sunday, July 26. This program is for children with autism and their families, and includes interactive time in the galleries, an art workshop, free admission to the Museum, and autism supports. All participating staff members are trained to lead programs for people with autism. Space is limited; online registration required. This is a free program.

Adult Sketch Class – 1-3 p.m. Monday, July 13. Join Teaching Artist Shannon Walker in the galleries and experience the Norton’s Collection through sketching. Receive guidance to improve your drawing skills as you engage with works of art and build community with other local artists. Various drawing principles and techniques will be addressed. Bring your own sketchbook (size limit of 11 x 14 inches) and pencils only. Space is limited; online registration required. Cost: $40 per person/members $20.

Mindful Moments – Noon Monday, July 6. Join Jodi Sypher, MS Ed., for a mindfulness practice using a work of art as the object of attention. Discover the art of slowing down and becoming aware of the present moment using art as a tool for practice. Space is limited; online registration required. Cost: Museum admission/Members free.

Sensory Friendly Sunday – 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, July 19. Join us for art, music, games, and crafts designed for children, teens, and young adults with disabilities, ASD, neurodiversity, or sensory processing differences. The Museum is open from 10-11 a.m. exclusively for those with sensory needs and their families, providing a calm environment. Guests can continue activities when the Museum opens to the public at 11 am. Space is limited; online registration required. Cost: Museum admission/Members free.

Creative Connections | Art for Well-Being – 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, July 24. Join us for a special museum experience for individuals living with dementia and their care partners. Explore the galleries together, enjoy guided conversation, and create your own art inspired by what you see. Share creativity, connection, and meaningful moments in a welcoming, supportive space. Cost: Museum admission/Members free.

Sunday Wellness – 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Invest in yourself! Join us for a wellness activity TBD. Check the website for a complete schedule. Cost: Museum admission/Members free.

PERFORMANCES
Jazz Brunch – 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, July 12, The Restaurant. The Restaurant serves up classic brunch fare with a complimentary Bloody Mary or a glass of champagne. Each date highlights South Florida jazz musicians. Space is limited; online reservations at norton.org/Restaurant.

Hollywood Gems Film Series – Cost: Museum admission/Members free.
  • 2 p.m. Sunday, July 12. The Alamo (1960; 2 hours, 42 minutes) The story of the 1836 Texas battle, starring John Wayne, Richard Widmark, and Laurence Harvey, and directed by John Wayne.
 
  • 2 p.m. Sunday, July 26. Glory (1989; 2 hours, 2 minutes) Robert Gould Shaw leads the nation’s first all-Black volunteer company during the Civil War, fighting prejudices from both his own Union Army and Confederate forces. Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington, and Cary Elwes, and directed by Edward Zwick.
