![]() There is a little gem located on Park Avenue in Lake Park where interesting things are happening. That place is called the Lake Park Public Library. Director Karen Mahnk, MLIS, oversees the day-to-day activities within the walls, where tall shelves are neatly lined with rows of books, newspapers and magazines hang in bins and computers wait in quiet rooms to be utilized. There is an area for young children, another for youth and smaller rooms where visitors can escape for a quiet atmosphere in which to study. But, there is also a small, but inviting Rose Garden where one may sit and read in the warm South Florida weather. Inside, the library is bright, cheery and has a quietly welcoming vibe. But, an important aspect of the facility are very special friends, such as Muriel and Irv Seidman. People comprising "Friends of the Library" work hard to secure funding to continue to make educational opportunities available to community residents. One such fundraising event is the annual Book Fair. So, mark your calendar and prepare to look for some deals on books at the "Friends of the Library Book Sale", Saturday, January 23, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., taking place inside the library at 529 Park Avenue, Lake Park. This event helps fund an assortment of youth programs, a vital component of any community. As library supporter Irv Seidman commented, "The thrust of our library is our kids." Supporting educational programs while securing some wonderful books is a worthy event. -- Pam Barker Comments are closed.
