Atlas (Lemonade for Atlas) This Sunday, a family is hosting a Lemonade for Atlas stand at Lake Catherine Park as part of a grassroots campaign that has now grown to 21 lemonade stands across three states and two Canadian provinces. Atlas is a two-year-old boy with Pitt Hopkins syndrome, a rare genetic neurodevelopmental condition affecting speech, mobility, learning, and brain development. He is non-speaking and working toward independent mobility. The fundraising comes at an important moment for Pitt Hopkins research. This year, the first-ever human gene-therapy trial for Pitt Hopkins syndrome began treating children. Research that once seemed far in the future is now happening. For Pitt Hopkins Awareness Month, our family launched Lemonade for Atlas to raise awareness and funds for Pitt Hopkins research. What began with one family lemonade stand has spread as relatives, friends, neighbors, community members, and even strangers have volunteered to host stands for Atlas. This Sunday, Atlas’s grandmother, aunt, and cousins are hosting a stand in Palm Beach Gardens. When: Sunday, September 20, 9:45–11:00 a.m. Where: Lake Catherine Park on MacArthur Blvd, Palm Beach Gardens What: Atlas’s family hosting a Lemonade for Atlas stand and available for interviews The stand is part of a broader Pitt Hopkins Awareness Month effort. Landmarks are also illuminating blue in recognition of Pitt Hopkins syndrome, including South Florida’s Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, Niagara Falls, and the Peace Bridge. For background on the wider campaign, see PittHopkins.org/Atlas. Comments are closed.
