(PRESS RELEASE)_(West Palm Beach, FL – November 3, 2022) Straight off his appearances at the Kennedy and Lincoln Center stages, the world’s greatest living master of the five-string Spanish timple is coming to the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts when legendary musician Germán López presents: ALMA. The cultural ambassador to the Canary Islands is joined by his ensemble and special guest, Grammy-nominee percussionist Sammy Figueroa on November 19 at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now. Accepted into the Conservatory of Music in las Palmas at seven years old, López began performing in concerts by age ten, collaborating with legendary timple performer, José Antonio Ramos. His skill with the timple, and other instruments native to the Canary Islands, led to the production of four, critically acclaimed albums, numerous awards and collaborations with the greatest names in Latin music. This year, Virgin Records / Universal Music Spain released López's ALMA: a monumental music album featuring guests such as Richard Bona, Seckou Keita, Lila Downs, Antonio Toledo, Cheche Alara, Alain Pérez, and produced by two-time Latin Grammy “Producer of the Year” Gregg Field. Praised by Huffington Post for his “entrancing” performances, and “delicately rippling notes,” López’s original instrumental music brings together Spanish flamenco, West African rhythms, the flourishing spirit of jazz and an innovative approach to “island music.” This one-of-a-kind world music experience features Antonio Toledo on Spanish guitar, Edward Perez on bass, Pablo Bencid on drums, Matt King on keyboard, and special guest performer, multi-Grammy-nominated percussionist Sammy Figueroa. After twenty years as a New York-based sideman, recording and touring with artists such as Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, David Bowie, Mariah Carey, Chaka Khan, Quincy Jones, the Brecker Brothers, Michel Camillo, Dave Valentin, Tania Maria and countless others, Figueroa moved to South Florida where he discovered a community of brilliant virtuosos from Cuba, Venezuela, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina and Puerto Rico and from music schools at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music and Florida International University. Germán López presents: ALMA takes place at the Kravis Center’s Marshall E. Rinker, Sr. Playhouse Saturday, November 19 at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Tickets start at $39* and may be purchased at the official Kravis Center website kravis.org and at the Kravis Center Box Office by calling 561.832.7469. Kravis Box office hours are Monday through Saturday, 12 p.m. - 5 p.m Comments are closed.
