This month, we’ll celebrate the beauty and magic of daily life. Families will explore artworks from the Norton’s Collection that capture ordinary moments, play, rituals, and quiet joys. Then, create your own art inspired by the routines, games, and little adventures that make your day extraordinary. Children ages 5 – 12, and their accompanying grown-ups, participate in a 15-minute spotlight tour, followed by a related art workshop. Over the span of a year, we follow a woman who wavers between stasis and movement and her need to belong and to be free. This is a story about transformation, exuberance, dread, attachment, and estrangement. Read the book and enjoy the discussion and the gallery talk focused on St. Mark’s in Venice by Jane Peterson, led by a Norton staff member. Join Norton Teaching Artist Shannon Walker in the galleries and experience the Norton’s Collection through sketching. Receive guidance to improve your drawing skills as you engage with works of art and build community with other local artists. Various principles and techniques of drawing will be addressed. Bring your own sketchbook (size limit of 11 x 14 inches) and pencils only. Space is limited; online registration required. Cost: $35 per person/Members $20. Family Autism Art Workshop – 1-2 p.m. (K-6th Grade) and 3-4 p.m. (7th-12th Grade) Sunday, March 15. The program is for children with autism and their families, and includes interactive time in the galleries, an art workshop, free admission to the Museum, and autism supports. Under the guidance of the Teen Collective members, students will learn techniques to refine their observational drawing skills. All materials will be provided.
