(Press Release) BOCA RATON, FL – Restaurateur and hospitality legend Alex Dana may call Chicago home, but Boca Raton is certainly his kind of town. Earlier this year, Dana—a part-time “City for All Seasons” resident since the 1980s—quietly opened Mia Rosebud along trendy East Palmetto Park Road. Selected for its massive 7,700-square-foot footprint and walkability to South Beach Park, the location serves as Rosebud Restaurant Group’s inaugural Florida flagship, tenth culinary address, and the only asset in its multi-concept portfolio beyond Illinois’ borders. “I have wanted to open a restaurant in Boca Raton for a while,” says Dana, who launched the original Rosebud in 1976 in Chicago’s historic Little Italy. “Not only because I love it here, but it’s an epicurean town with some of the nation’s finest dining rooms.” Dana is especially excited to introduce his family’s 100-year-old recipes to a new flock of sophisticated diners and the signature dishes he has served for over 50 years. Curated by Dana, the menu pays tribute to Chicago-style Italian cuisine with a few local twists. “We herald from a meat processing city that is fast becoming the nation’s urban farming epicenter, so sourcing the finest and freshest ingredients possible has always been our company’s criterion,” says Marco Micheli, director of restaurant operations for Rosebud Restaurant Group. “Our meat and olive oil are shipped in from Chicago and seafood and produce are caught and grown in Florida.” In addition to generous portions, diners can expect old-school red sauce specialties such as classic spaghetti and meatballs, parmesan-breaded chicken, veal, and eggplant baked with liberal amounts of mozzarella cheese, and Rosebud’s original pappardelle (square noodles blanketed in tomato basil sauce). The restaurant also doubles as a steakhouse, serving only USDA Prime meat, including a 24 oz. Delmonico and The Carmine, a 16 oz. bone-in filet chop served with fragrant Lyonnaise potatoes. The restaurant hosts happy hour Tuesday through Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and weekly promotions, including Monday Endless Aperitivo Hour* (half-off cocktails, wine, and beer from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.); Twist Off Tuesday(half-off wine bottles under $100); Speakeasy Wednesday ($5 barrel-aged Manhattans and Old Fashioneds); Thursday Ladies Night* ($5 Tito’s martinis and glasses of rosé from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.); Prime Rib Friday ($55 16 oz. USDA Prime rib with au jus, creamy horseradish, and loaded baked potato); and Shuck & Savor Sunday* (just-shucked East Coast oysters for $1 per piece until sold out). *Available at the main bar and outdoor piazza only Before opening, Dana tapped Jackson Harlan Architects in Oak Park, Illinois, and architect/interior designer Peter Harlan, with whom he has worked on several commercial projects to overhaul the restaurant’s interior spaces and outdoor patio and give them a modern refresh. In 2020, after touring the property, which had sat vacant for 12 years, the duo knew extensive work was required. “Not only did it need a new rooftop HVAC system and undersurface plumbing, but we also had to figure out where to put things like the kitchen because it was all raw open space,” explains Harlan, who notes the project took over 18 months to complete. When it came to employing his famous design alchemy, Harlan didn’t disappoint. Using Chicago’s Rosebud on Taylor Street as a guide, he created a classic yet modern setting with stylish elements like herringbone LVT flooring in charred oak, light and dark chocolate wood furnishings, and vibrant pops of red, gold, and Reese orange. Upon entering, guests are greeted by a hostess area verging on a spacious open-format space beneath a black canopy ceiling with exposed ductwork. To delineate the various dining areas and long mahogany-top bar that opens to a covered alfresco patio with overhead fans and misters, Harlan suspended trellises in varied elevations. Additionally, he wove in luxurious textiles, fresco-inspired wallcoverings, and manifold lighting designs such as oversized hand-forged chandeliers in mixed metals designed by industrial blacksmith Jon Sarriugarte for Restoration Hardware. In the open kitchen (another first for the highly successful restaurant brand), guests can watch from their seats as chicken and brisket are made in a Rotisol rotisserie while the rest of the culinary magic unfolds. Further back, chefs make all the meatballs, sauces, and pasta by hand daily in a commissary-style kitchen that passersby can view from the outdoor sidewalk. Perpendicular to the kitchen stands a 600-bottle glass wine cabinet and a semi-private dining room that seats 30. For a residential effect, Harlan added a crystal chandelier and large dining room table in the center and dotted the velvety red walls with photographs of Dana with Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and other famous friends. Open for dinner daily. Hours are Monday–Thursday, 4–9:30 p.m.; Friday–Saturday, 4–10:30 p.m.; and Sunday, 4–9 p.m. Mia Rosebud is located at 150 E. Palmetto Park Road, Boca Raton, Florida 33432.
