![]() By GERRY BARKER The event was "Sip, Sample & Savor," hosted by the Grandview Public Market in The Warehouse District of West Palm Beach. It might have been, "Sip, Sample, Savor and Pour" -- as in rain -- owing to a late afternoon thunderstorm. But that didn't deter us and our friends from making the scene. This was our first foray into this revitalized industrial district on the outskirts of downtown West Palm, which has transformed former warehouses and an old railroad track into a hub of eateries, shops and businesses, where "local flavors meet the community." Located at 1401 Clare Avenue, attendees who braved the elements received a "Golden Ticket" which could be used to get free food and drink samples from participating vendors, which included Josey's Salads and Smoothies, Nativus, Joi Poke and Sushi and Bonita's. To start, we sampled smoothies and yuca cheese bread from Nativus, specializing in Ecuadorian cuisine, both full of flavor. At Joi Poke and Sushi, we tried the "Joi Sushi Crunch," sushi rice, pickled cabbage and salmon on a deep-fried wonton. At Josey's, the fare was a goat cheese panini, while Bonita's served up a pork taco, with pickled red onion, cilantro and salsa verde.
There's virtually something here for every taste, from Cajun and Ramen to pizza and desserts. And if you're in the mood for a sit down, dining experience, there's Isla and Co., offering food with an Australian flair. From looking over their brunch menu, their Brioche French Toast is definitely on our wish list. From the expansive outdoor seating areas to the comfy confines of the "Living Room," there's a relaxed vibe here that will attract foodies and shoppers alike. For the latter, don't miss the Gypsy Life Surf Shop. It's like a shrine to every beach party movie ever made, and even includes a VW bus packed and ready to party down by the sand. There's much more to see and do here, and we'll be back, Golden Ticket in hand, for more food and drink adventures over the summer. Comments are closed.
