Related: The Art of Jewelry ![]() (Press Release) West Palm Beach, Florida (June 24, 2025) – No Place Like Home. Be it ever so humble, there’s no place like Home. So says the song, Home! Sweet Home! It was notions of home that inspired the exhibition No Place Like Home, with artwork created by youth who participate in the Norton Museum of Art’s Afterschool Outreach, which serves more than 700 children and teens, ages 5 to 18, from eight community organizations. This year’s exhibition, open through November 23 and installed in the Norton’s Chris and Bernard Marden Community Gallery, brings together work by those students, who participate in classes led by Norton educators.
The concept of "home" is the central theme of this year's exhibition. As they visited artworks in the Norton’s Collection, students encountered how art can reflect deeply personal experiences and broader community ties, articulating the theme of No Place Like Home from their own viewpoints. “Each year, this exhibition is a highlights the diverse ways our students engage with art and express themselves,” said Derek Sober, the Norton’s Director of Family and Community Programs. “It’s incredibly rewarding to support young artists as they grow their skills and confidence.” Museum educators introduced unconventional techniques and materials, allowing students to re-imagine home not just as a physical space, but as an emotion. In individual and collaborative artworks, students explored new interpretations of home through the lenses of nature, the body, and imagination. The media for No Place Like Home are varied – textiles, cyanotypes, objects with felted trimmings, all arranged in interesting ways. Since 1991, the Afterschool Arts Outreach (AAO) program has provided creative development to youth in under-resourced Palm Beach County communities through year-round arts experiences. AAO offers free art lessons, Museum tours, and family passes to visit the Norton, fostering new interests, exploration, empathy, and self-awareness. The program culminates in an annual exhibition featuring artworks by children and teens who have participated in the program. Comments are closed.
