Norton Museum of Art Nuestra Cultura(Photo by Jacek Photo) (Press Release) West Palm Beach, Florida (September 10, 2025) – Celebrate Hispanic culture by visiting the Norton Museum of Art during its annual Nuestra Cultura Community Day. The Norton’s commemoration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Nuestra Cultura Community Day, is set for 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, October 4, includes Latin music, dance, art activities, and more. Online registration is requested. Last year, nearly 1,000 people came to the Norton to celebrate the diverse cultures and traditions across South America, Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
“People come to Nuestra Cultura to learn, to be entertained, and to be inspired by the vibrancy of traditions from across our hemisphere,” said Ghislain d’Humières, Kenneth C. Griffin Director & CEO of the Norton. Guests can create their own art during workshops, be entertained by musicians and dancers, feast on food inspired by cuisines from across the Americas, and meet with representatives of community organizations. Activities include exploring works in the Norton Collection using an augmented reality app, plus music by Marimba Angelos del Copal, with sounds from Guatemala, Mariachi Pancho Villa, with music from Mexico, and Miami’s Cuban Flavor Band, which is sure to get people dancing. Las Paisanas, founded by three 11th grade students from Young Women’s Preparatory Academy in Miami, will celebrate the richness of Hispanic and Latin dance. José Mendez, Creative Director of R. Dot Arts & Creative Agency, will give a talk on Guatemala’s giant kites, which honor ancestor, community and the link between Earth and sky. After Mendez’s talk, view a traditional kite on display in the Museum’s Fabrikant Lobby. Enjoy special presentations by Latinos in Action, with performances of poetry, dance and more by Palm Beach County high school students, or take classes in Open Studio, with opportunities to decorate mini plaster skull magnets inspired by the Day of the Dead traditions of Latin American, create a Huipil paper collage inspired by the traditional blouses of Mexico and Central America, or make cempasúchil, paper marigolds inspired by the vibrant flowers of Dia de los Muertos. Young visitors can join in the fun of a pull-string piñata party – no sticks – and visitors of all ages can learn to play dominoes with The Puerto Rican Cultural Society of Palm Beach County. Share wishes, hopes, and messages at a Papel Picado station, and enjoy the sweet flavors of Latin America at the Candy Table. Community partners also will be on hand to showcase the positive impact they are having on the community. “Each year, we welcome returning guests to Nuestra Cultura,” d’Humières said. “But one of the most satisfying aspects of our Community Days is greeting people who are visiting the Museum for the first time. That contact is priceless.” Comments are closed.
