(Press Release) West Palm Beach, Florida (February 18, 2026)—A group of 66 young artists whose work appears in Norton Museum of Art student exhibition Portrait Mode: Self-Reflections from Past, Present, and Future received a happy surprise during a reception to celebrate the show’s opening. Jane Holzer, a philanthropist and Norton Trustee who was on the jury for the show, had trouble choosing works for first, second, and third prizes, so she decided to award each of the 66 artists with a $1,000 scholarship. “We are grateful to Ms. Holzer, who has generously stepped forward to make a difference in these students’ lives,” said Ghislain d’Humières, Kenneth C. Griffin Director and CEO, adding, “It was tough to choose winners from this group of talented artists — the work was that strong.”
For the exhibition, Palm Beach County middle and high school students drew inspiration from the Norton Museum of Art’s blockbuster show, Art and Life in Rembrandt’s Time: Masterpieces from The Leiden Collection. Students depicted themselves in self-portraits that show them as they are now or transported them to another place and time. Media range from ceramics to drawing to painting. There were more than 250 submissions, showcasing teachers’ and students’ great interest in this year’s theme; from those, 66 works were selected for the exhibition. There were winners in this exhibition, juried by a group that, in addition to Ms. Holzer, included Daisy Soros, Lorna James, J. Rachel Gustafson, Jose Alvarez, and d’Humières, who selected top winners:

The paintings, drawings, sculptures, and ceramic works are on display in the Norton’s Chris and Bernard Marden Community Gallery through August 16. Comments are closed.
