Join Norton Teaching Artist Shannon Walker in the galleries and experience the Norton’s Collection through sketching. Receive guidance to improve your drawing skills as you engage with works of art and build community with other local artists. Various principles and techniques of drawing will be addressed. Families will explore works in the Norton’s Collection that highlight Latin American heritage, then create their own inspired artwork, like papel picado, tile patterns, or cultural portraits. Creating Contemporary Memoria with Sara VanDerBeek This workshop will include learning about and working with various photographic media from past and present and other materials such as textiles, personal ephemera and pictures to create an assemblage inspired by Victorian photo albums and scrapbooks. Processes will include making contact Lumen prints of family textiles, instant digital prints from cell phone capture via the Fuji Instax printing process, and collage. Participants are encouraged to bring family textiles, personal memorabilia, and select images from which they would like to print on site and include in their collages. Space is limited; online registration required. Cost: TBD. Family Autism Art Workshop – 1-2 p.m. Sunday, October 19 (K – 6th grades) and 3 – 4 p.m. (7th – 12th grades). Join the Norton Museum of Art for an accessible art workshop for children with autism and their families. The program includes interactive time in the galleries, an art workshop, free admission to the Museum, and autism supports.
