(Press Release) West Palm Beach, Florida (September 30, 2024) – Palm Beach Symphony’s recently released 2023-2024 Season Impact Report highlights the extraordinary accomplishments and moments of the non-profit organization’s milestone 50th anniversary season. “Our 2023-2024 season was exceptional in every sense, thanks to the steadfast generosity of our Board members, subscribers, donors, patrons and community partners,” said Palm Beach Symphony CEO David McClymont. “The Masterworks Series, under the masterful direction of our renowned Music Director Gerard Schwarz, was nothing short of spectacular, driving a 22% increase in ticket sales. Palm Beach Symphony has experienced remarkable growth, and together, we remain committed to our mission of engaging, educating and entertaining the Palm Beach County community."
Masterful Performances The 2023-2024 Masterworks series at the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts featured world-class soloists, generously sponsored by the Symphony’s Impresario Society. Pianists Yefim Bronfman, Santiago Rodriguez, Emanuel Ax and Ignat Solzhenitsyn and violinists Akiko Suwanai and Pinchas Zukerman captivated audiences with unforgettable performances. Solidifying Palm Beach Symphony’s standing as a major American symphony, the season also featured four world premieres by composers Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, Aaron Jay Kernis, Bright Sheng and Maestro Schwarz. National Attention The Dale A. McNulty Children’s Concert Series continued to introduce orchestral music to children and their families with the world premiere of “The Carnival of More Animals,” which included a curriculum available to 234 public schools with 188,375 enrolled students as well as additional private schools and students. The nationally televised “Eudora's Fable: The Shoe Bird" was broadcast on more than 180 public television stations across the country. For the fourth consecutive year, the Symphony’s “Sounds of the Season,” featuring holiday favorites from classical and popular music, was broadcast on CBS 12 NEWS and CW 34 in West Palm Beach with multiple broadcasts reaching an audience of more than 13.4 million. “Sounds of the Season” and Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 9 in D Minor, Op. 125 (Choral)” during the Masterworks Concert 6 were also educational student engagement collaborations. In total, Palm Beach Symphony’s local and national televised broadcasts reached an audience of more than 151 million. Educational and Community Impact In addition to the Dale A. McNulty Children’s Concert Series, the Palm Beach Symphony continued to expand its education and community outreach programs with student coaching sessions and master classes, instrument donations and public concerts. Palm Beach Symphony held 105 specialized instrument coaching sessions with 183 school classes and offered 221 instructional contact hours while also providing residencies at U.B. Kinsey/Palmview Elementary School of the Arts, The Conservatory School at North Palm Beach, Palm Springs Middle School and Lake Worth High School during the last school year. Additionally, students were invited to two open rehearsals with violinist Pinchas Zukerman and pianist Santiago Rodriguez and two piano masterclasses with Rodriguez and Ignat Solzhenitsyn. In addition, 900 complimentary tickets to Masterworks Concerts were provided to students and educators. In March, the Symphony named its impactful instrument donation program for the late Todd Barron, a longtime supporter and founder and first president of the Young Friends of Palm Beach Symphony. Funds raised for the Todd Barron Instrument Donation Fund go directly toward putting musical instruments into the hands of promising young musicians. In addition to refurbishing instruments, the Fund also enables the Symphony to purchase new instruments and accessories on an as-needed basis, as well as for professional model instruments and accessories gifted to the Symphony’s annual Lisa Bruna B-Major Award winners for high school seniors who present a financial need and will pursue music as their major in college. This past school year, 210 instruments and 1,025 accessories and pieces of equipment were donated, bringing the impressive total to 698 instruments and nearly 1,500 accessories and pieces of equipment since the program's inception in 2016. The Palm Beach Symphony has expanded its reach in Palm Beach County and beyond with intimate conversations, candlelight concerts, interactive performances and more. Musicians performed at venues across South Florida including the Cox Science Center and Aquarium, The Benjamin School, Lugano Diamonds, Gardens Mall, Norton Museum, Palm Beach Yacht Club, The Breakers Palm Beach and private events.
