(Press Release) Delray Beach, FL - August 1, 2024- After another successful year of bringing theater education to the community, The Delray Beach Playhouse is excited to announce their 2024 Fall Semester of the exceptional educational program, the Playhouse Arts Academy. One can expect a full line-up of diverse classes suitable for all ages and skill levels and taught by a talented Delray Beach Playhouse professional. The Playhouse Arts Academy will offer six unique classes made to inspire theater lovers of all ages and experience. “The Playhouse Arts Academy is proud to have built a safe space for kids and adults to be creative! We want to bring the community together and everyone is welcome,” said Delray Beach Playhouse Education Director, Jessie Dez. Registration for Fall Semester is officially open and the academy will run starting on the week of August 26th to the week of December 9th, 2024. Kicking off the first class of the Fall Playhouse Arts Academy Semester is, BUBBIES for BROADWAY Part 1: Musical Theatre for the Young at Heart! This class, exclusive to males and females ages 55+ is designed for those young at heart, seeking to invigorate their spirits, sharpen their minds and fill their hearts with joy! This class will delve into the world of Broadway, with the timeless hits and classics everybody knows and loves! Rehearsals will take place weekly in the Cabaret Theater, offering a picturesque view of the serene Lake Ida. Classes take place on Monday mornings from 11:00AM to 12:00 PM, August 26th through December 9th and taught by industry professional Megan Rebecca. Individuals can save 10% if choosing to enroll in both Bubbies for Broadway Part 1 and Bubbies for Broadway Part 2.
Adding to our exclusive line-up of classes for seniors is our BUBBIES for BROADWAY Part 2: Acting & Improv for Seniors! A continuation of Bubbies for Broadway Part 1, this Acting & Improv focused class offers a variety of brain-sharpening improv games, team-building exercises, monologues and scene work inspired by well-known plays and musicals. If you’re seeking an afternoon filled with creativity and laughter, you’ve found the perfect spot! Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned professional, there’s always room to learn something new. Class will take place weekly on Monday afternoons from 12:30PM to 1:30 PM, August 26th through December 9th and taught by industry professional Michael Materdomini. Individuals can save 10% if choosing to enroll in both Bubbies for Broadway Part 1 and Bubbies for Broadway Part 2. Learn the tools needed for effective monologues, auditions and character work in our new class debuting this Fall, ACTORS WORKSHOP 101, a 12-week accelerated acting course designed for individuals aged 18 and above. In this workshop, students will be given scenes to work on with their fellow actors and asked to prepare a character analysis. Each following week, students will act out these scenes with acting partners, critiqued to perfection. At the end of the course, we will gather the best scenes from each person’s work and present a showcase at the Playhouse. Classes take place weekly on Monday nights from 7:00PM to 9:00PM starting September 9th through December 9th. This acting course will be taught by industry professionals Keith Garsson and Genie Croft. Get ready to shine bright like a star with our Fall Broadway Show Program: FROZEN JR The Musical, a follow-up to our smash-hit Broadway Camp that’ll have you owning the stage all season long! Frozen JR. is based on the 2018 Broadway musical, and brings Elsa, Anna, and the magical land of Arendelle to life, onstage. A story of true love and acceptance between sisters, Frozen JR. expands upon the emotional relationship and journey between Princesses Anna and Elsa. With a cast of beloved characters and loaded with magic, adventure, and plenty of humor, Frozen JR. is sure to thaw even the coldest heart! Rehearsals will take place on Monday afternoons from 4:30 PM - 7:30 PM with once a month weekend rehearsals. The show will be directed by Jessie Dez, musically directed by Elijah Gee and Choreographed by Amanda Lopez. Auditions are required and students must be in between ages 7-16 for consideration. Hit the “triple threat” trifecta with our popular Musical Theater Kids Class for students aged 7-13, that focuses on singing, dancing and acting! With a comprehensive curriculum, children will excel in acting, music, and movement. They will explore theater techniques, musical pieces, and dynamic choreography to boost their confidence and talents for stage performance. Classes will take place on Tuesday afternoons from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM August 27th through December 3rd and taught by industry professional, Jessie Dez. Last but not least in our Fall Semester lineup is a fun and exciting theatre class where you can become a Fun Camp All-Star! This class is perfect for beginners, ages 7-12, who want to learn the basics of acting and performance while having a blast with theatre games, arts and crafts, and performance workshops. Throughout the semester, students will have the opportunity to showcase their skills in a sharing for family and friends every 5 weeks. Whether it’s a simple skit, a dance routine, or a creative project, the focus is on having fun and building a love for Theatre. Classes will take place on Wednesday afternoons from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM August 28th through December 4th and taught by industry professional Danielle Parker.
