(PRESS RELEASE)_​(Palm Beach County, FL – August 1, 2023) Activist and civil rights attorney Rabbi Barry Silver is inviting supporters of “rational thinking, abortion rights, progressive ideas, freedom in education, and defenders of our precious planet and all its inhabitants, human and otherwise” to a PROTECT Democracy Rally & Concert on Wednesday, August 9, from 7 to 9 pm. This FREE event will be held at the South County Civic Center, 16700 Jog Road in Delray Beach (33446). 
 
This thought-provoking and conscious-raising event is sponsored so far by WiN NOW, the Loxahatchee Group of the Sierra Club Florida Chapter, and Congregation L’Dor Va-Dor in Boynton Beach.

PROTECT stands for Progressive, Resolute, Organizations Together Enthusiastically Combatting Tyranny. The PROTECT Democracy Concert & Rally is the activist organization’s next public event and is open to anyone interested in “challenging right wing theocratic tyranny in America.”
 
Among the critical issues to be discussed are:

• Climate Change
• Protecting the Ag Reserve
• Abortion Rights
• Education, not indoctrination; freedom in our universities
• Teaching evolution, not “junk science”
• Gun Control
• Protection of Democracy in America
• Holding insurrectionists responsible for their crimes

 
Live music at the PROTECT Democracy Rally will be provided by the popular singing duo Pink Slip and Cantor Carol Garrett. Free refreshments will be available.
 
“Why are we having this event? Because In Florida, Governor DeSantis seeks to impose a right wing, Christian theocracy upon the rest of us, dismantling the separation of church and state, which the founders of this nation established to ensure that the soil of America would not be soaked in blood as it was in Europe,” warns Rabbi Silver. “They seek to replace democracy with demagoguery, education with indoctrination and to torch our freedoms rather than let the torch of freedom burn brightly as a beacon of hope for the world. Learning nothing from the past, they threaten to reinstate the horrors of yesterday by aligning fascism with theocracy to bring out our worst impulses and destroy our nation.”
