![]() By GERRY BARKER Photos/Video by Gerry and Pamela Barker Longtime customers of that Lake Worth institution, the iconic Benny's on the Beach, will notice a new addition to their Oceanwalk location by Lake Worth Casino: A sushi speakeasy. Sushi by Bou, already open at PGA National and in Boca Raton, now has its first oceanfront venue at 10 S. Ocean Blvd. in Lake Worth. Opened less than a week, it invited selected guests and media to take a look and sample their trademark omasake menu. In the world of sushi, omasake is "let the chef decide" what you are served, and at Sushi by Bou, it's a fixed menu ($65) of 12 different sushi items. The U-shaped seating accommodates up to 14 guests, who get to watch a master chef up close as they perform their culinary magic. Greeted by hosts Nicole and Jules, we kicked things off with one of their signature cocktails. Pam enjoyed a "Gin and Flowers" while I had the "Shake Your Bou-ey," made with cruzan, lemon juice, lychee and coconut, garnished with fresh mint. Mine came in a fish stein that was as much fun as it was delicious. The Sushi by Bou design team works wonders with small spaces, and this location is no different. Playing off the beach theme, there are surfboards that spell "Bou," fanciful feathers on the lights, an inviting lounge in true speakeasy style, a bar and vibrant music that suits a beachy outing. The décor is all part of what Sushi by Bou offers -- a total dining experience. Guests come at an appointed time to enjoy an hour-long "theater of food" as their master chefs slice, dice and create works of sushi art as you watch. For our visit, Master Chefs Tim and Hai entertained us as they prepared delicacies like gindara (Miso Cod) and unagi (BBQ Eel). Those two were certainly my favorites. Pam also got invited to apply flame to one of Chef Hai's selections -- I think we have a new sushi chef in training. Sushi by Bou is rapidly expanding, now with almost 30 locations throughout the nation and in Puerto Rico. If you love sushi, or want to try it for the first time, Sushi by Bou will both entertain and delight your senses at the same time. Plus, afterwards you can walk across the street and enjoy a stroll along the ocean. Talk about your win-win. Find out more HERE. Comments are closed.
