Tri-Rail Presented Certificate of Appreciation

(Press Release) During the Friday, May 2025 Governing Board Meeting of the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA), Palm Beach County Commissioner and SFRTA Chair Marci Woodward presented Tri-Rail representatives with a Certificate of Appreciation for the agency’s response to the aircraft crash that occurred on the rail corridor on April 11, 2025.

​The tragic incident resulted in the death of three family members when their plane came to rest on the South Florida Rail Corridor tracks in Boca Raton. SFRTA staff responded immediately, cooperating with law enforcement and investigators while assessing the infrastructure damage caused by the crash.

“Your immediate action to assist investigators, assess infrastructure damage, and communicate with the public ensured the safety of passengers and staff during a tragic and challenging situation,” read Commissioner Woodward, delivering the proclamation on behalf of the Palm Beach County Board of Commissioners. “With sincere appreciation for your efforts and commitment to keeping our community connected, we commend you for your outstanding work.”

The crash investigation lasted more than 24 hours, during which time a bus bridge was established to maintain service north of the Boca Raton Station and south of the Deerfield Beach Station, as trains were unable to pass through the impacted area while track recovery efforts were underway.

SFRTA Executive Director David Dech acknowledged key partners including Herzog, Transdev, and Allied Universal—contractors for train operations, track maintenance, and security, respectively—as well as members of SFRTA’s Executive, Safety & Security, and Public Affairs departments for their crucial roles in the recovery process. He also extended a special thank-you to Palm Tran and Broward County Transit for their cooperation in providing bus services between the two counties during this critical time.
