Tri-Rail Reports Record Sunday Ridership

(Press Release) The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) reported that Tri-Rail recorded its highest Sunday ridership on Sunday, May 17, 2026, following the Inter Miami CF match against Portland at Nu Stadium.

Tri-Rail exceeded 8,600 rides this past Sunday, surpassing its previous record of 8,400 that was reached during the Ultra Music Festival in 2024. As a plus, the home team recorded its first win at its new home stadium that is located within walking distance of Tri-Rail’s Miami Airport Station.

“This record-setting ridership reflects the growing excitement surrounding Inter Miami CF and the important role public transit plays in supporting major sporting events,” said Diane Hernandez Del Calvo, SFRTA Interim Executive Director. “These numbers reinforce the growing demand for Tri-Rail service to get you major events in South Florida.”

With the match starting at 6:00 p.m., about an hour earlier than the previous four home games, passengers were able to catch Tri-Rail’s last northbound train at the conclusion of the game, in addition to a special train added to supplement the service.

Tri-Rail has scheduled special train service for all weekend matches during the 2026 MLS season. The next home match is set for Sunday, May 24 at 7:00 p.m., with dedicated train service departing approximately 45 minutes after the final whistle.

“Our team has worked hard to ensure fans have a seamless travel experience before and after these matches and we look forward to continuing the service throughout the season,” said Ms. Hernandez Del Calvo. “As South Florida prepares to host the World Cup this summer, Tri-Rail is ready to move thousands of residents and visitors safely and efficiently across the region.”

SFRTA is planning special train service for the seven World Cup matches in Miami this summer, along with additional service for fan events in downtown Miami.
