(Press Release) Tequesta, Fla., (October 24, 2024) – Lighthouse ArtCenter (LAC) in Tequesta, FL, celebrated the remarkable work of the forty-four ceramic artists featured in the "LUSH 3" exhibition and presented five artists with cash awards at an Artists’ Reception on October 17, 2024. "LUSH 3" is a biennial contemporary ceramics open-call exhibition paired with an artist working primarily in 2D media. The exhibition occurs at the LAC Gallery & 2D Studio, located at 373 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta, FL 33469, through November 16. The juried exhibition received nearly 500 submissions from both emerging and established ceramic artists nationwide, featuring functional, sculptural, and experimental pieces created within the past two years. A panel of nationally recognized ceramic artists carefully selected forty-four works from artists working in thirty-eight different cities. Jamie Bates, a renowned ceramicist, and LAC 3-Wings Fellowship Visiting Artist, served as a judge during the Artists’ Reception, which included an Awards Ceremony presented by LAC Curator Anthony Record and Executive Director Jeni Licata. "It’s always exciting to find out which pieces end up resonating with the judge of an exhibition," said Anthony Record. "Jamie Bates did a wonderful job of highlighting pieces for their technical excellence, exploration of the medium, compelling concepts, and emotional depth."
The award winners are as follows:
artist Chris Leidy, known for his stunning images captured during global expeditions beneath the ocean's surface. The textures, colors, and complexities of his images of coral beautifully complement the contemporary ceramics on display and speak to the dichotomy of endurance and fragility inherent to both ceramics and coral. Since 1964, Lighthouse ArtCenter has been a cornerstone of the visual arts in northern Palm Beach and Martin Counties. With a mission to inspire and connect through vibrant exhibitions and educational programs, LAC serves over 20,000 visitors annually and supports a diverse community outreach initiative.
