We have probably driven by Pirate's Well Restaurant and Bar on A1A in Lake Park dozens of times, but had not tried it until our friends Dave and Marge invited us to join them there recently. We are so glad they did. At first glance, you might think it's your typical neighborhood bar, albeit a popular one. The parking lot is most times overflowing. Yes, it is a bar, but a lot more. The theme of course is everything pirate. Pirate flags, pirate statuary, pirate emblems, pirate sayings, pirate paraphernalia of every kind. Not fancy for sure, but fanciful. Walk in and you can imagine the Pirates of the Caribbean at a sports bar. As they explain on the menu, it's named for an actual place on Mayaguana Island -- the most easterly island in the Bahamas that around 300 people call home. Speaking of the menu, it's quite extensive, featuring a wide range of appetizers, sandwiches and entrees, everything from "Conch Cannon Balls" to "Capt. Sparrow's Jerk Chicken." It also prides itself on friendly service and a family atmosphere. Right on both counts. Youy'll feel at home almost immediately. Just about every day features a food or drink special, and Tuesday is $1 Taco Night starting at 7 pm. Best deal in town. Choose from beef or chicken. The ingredients are fresh, and oh so tasty. Match it with a Corona Light with a slice of lime and you're all set. One night of the week you can even try your hand at Corn Hole. Check the Pirate's Well website for more info on their special events. "X" marks the spot at 9477 Alternate A1A. Good times and good food await, me hearties! To get you in the "pirate mood," join in and sing the theme from Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride, "A Pirate's Life for Me.": 5/26/2016 03:12:37 pm
