[PALM BEACH, Fla., 1 September 2026] —  SeaDream Yacht Club, the family-owned luxury yachting company headquartered in Palm Beach, today announced SeaDream III, the first new yacht to join its fleet in the company’s 25-year history. Reservations for SeaDream III’s inaugural voyages open today.

Debuting in July 2029, SeaDream III will introduce the SeaDream experience to more of the world while remaining rooted in the defining qualities that have shaped the company for the past quarter century: intimate yachting, highly personalized service and a distinct sense of family.

Where the Love of Travel All Started

How did it all really begin?

Travel in our lives.

It's a long and winding road for the two of us, which I will not even begin to dissect  in this missive. What I will do is share the beginning, the early days of us when I was young and clueless, and he was 23 and a lot less clueless.

There was this thing I did when I was 21. More on that later in the story.

You see, at that age I was married to the person I met when I was 18 and a freshman college student focusing on dance. Of course, I was taking all the required courses, plus sociology and anthropology. When I began that freshman year, I was 17 and only knew I would be going to New York City and land my dancing feet on Broadway.

Coming from a family of newspaper readers -- morning, afternoon and Sunday -- I poured over the Travel Section every Sunday, clipping out favorite stories and places I wanted to go. One Sunday I was intrigued by an article extolling the virtues of an island called, St. John, which had a national park with few inhabitants. Yes, St. John went in my little box of travel dreams along with, Crete.

Funny, how the Universe can have other plans, which brings me to beginning of travel in our life together.

(One of a series of stories about destinations visited during an American Cruise Lines cruise on American Encore to the Columbia and Snake Rivers, with stops in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.)

It’s called Hells Canyon, for good reason.
North America’s deepest river gorge, plunging nearly 8,000 feet at its deepest, surpasses the Grand Canyon by some 2,000 feet. Carved by the Snake River over millennia, it borders three states: Oregon, Washington and Idaho. At American Encore’s last stop at Clarkston, WA./ Lewiston, ID., guests who have signed up for the Snake River Jet Boat Adventure will get a first-hand look at the waters that struck fear into early pioneers and steamboat captains.

(One of a series of stories about destinations visited during an American Cruise Lines cruise on American Encore to the Columbia and Snake Rivers, with stops in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.)

We know from history books and film about the Manhattan Project — the top secret, all-out race launched by the U.S. government to build an atomic weapon before Nazi Germany could do the same.

There were three sites established to conduct the research and development program:  Los Alamos, NM.,
Oak Ridge, TN. and Richland/Hanover, WA. One of the stops on our American Encore cruise was the latter — Richland, WA., which gave us an opportunity to learn how the area was transformed literally overnight for that Herculean task.
