Riverside Cruises Are Family Friendly

(Press Release) Denver, April 2025 – Multi-generational vacationing is not a new concept, but the recent uptick in interest has families looking at options beyond the mainstream. Let’s face it, theme parks and beach vacations aren’t for everyone. Enter river cruising. Although a relaxing and fun way to see Europe, river cruising hasn’t traditionally been positioned as family friendly. Riverside Luxury Cruises begs to differ.

“Riverside offers an ideal experience for affluent, savvy, multi-gen travelers. There is no easier way to see Europe while catering to different ages, interests and travel experience,” said Jennifer Halboth, CEO of Riverside Collection Americas. “Driving through Europe, or taking trains with the family in tow, will simply steal time away from your precious vacation. Instead, book a Riverside cruise, unpack once—extra important with kids in the mix—and let the crew cater to your family while you discover multiple cities and countries together in an easy yet luxurious trip.”

Having options is key when it comes to family travel, and Riverside delivers. Many river cruise lines have a minimum age limit, if they allow kids at all. Not so for Riverside. “This is by design. We don’t have a minimum age limit because we want to say yes to every family that wants to experience Europe in the uniquely Riverside way,” said Halboth. And each ship has connecting suites available, ideal for a family of four. Larger suites can accommodate a cot or a crib (upon request), and a third person staying in the same room travels for a 40% discount, with no charge for children under the age of two.

When it comes to excursions, every port includes choices that range from more traditional (walking tours), to immersive (visiting the chocolate museum in Cologne and attending cooking classes) to active (biking, hiking, and kayaking). And every Riverside cruise includes the use of bikes (a mix of regular and e-bikes), which appeal to families who want to get out and explore on their own.

Onboard, many of the included amenities on Riverside’s fleet appeal to kids and adults alike. Below are some favorites for multi-gen groups:
  • An indoor pool on each ship is shallow, making it ideal for kids, yet has resistance jets for those who want to get some laps in.
  • A fleet of bikes is available to all guests, affording families the opportunity to get active together and explore one of the many beautiful port towns at their own pace.
  • Bubble waffles are made fresh and served all day in the Atelier with a wide variety of toppings to choose from: chocolate, strawberries, sprinkles, whipped cream and more.
  • Each ship also features an ice cream counter in the Atelier space, served in cones or cups.
  • Riverside is one of the few river cruise line to offer 24-hour room service. Older kids can get cozy in their robes and slippers (included in every suite category) and do dinner and a movie in the suite while parents enjoy a quiet dinner in the restaurant.
  • Fresh made popcorn is available at the bar every night before happy hour—a draw for travelers of all ages, from kids to grandparents.
  • A buffet (switched out once per day from breakfast to lunch items) is available in Atelier all day long. Think homemade pretzels, meat/cheese, fresh fruits and decadent desserts. Kids can order hot chocolate while adults sip on barista-made lattes.
  • Finally, each suite comes with a dedicated butler who can help families curate and personalize their vacation, sending them home with lasting memories.

The most popular itineraries for multi-generational groups are Christmas Market sailings in November and December. Whether visiting markets along the Danube River (including the magical markets of Vienna and Hungary) or along the Rhine and Main Rivers through Germany (where the Christmas Market tradition began), there is something for everyone here to enjoy. Adults can sip glühwein and the kids enjoy a hot cocoa while everyone shops for handmade gifts, eat delectable sweets and even ice skate at a market.

Riverside Luxury Cruises is Europe’s newest and most luxurious river cruise line offering distinctive vacations on the Rhine, Rhône, Danube, Moselle, and Main rivers. The all-suites Riverside Mozart, Riverside Ravel, and Riverside Debussy offer the largest average suite size, all with king-size beds, highest staff-to-guest ratio, and up to five onboard restaurants. Guests can choose active tours from a menu of Riverside Choice excursions; take out a pedal- or e-bike, stored on board, for self-guided exploration; and bask in a rejuvenating treatment in the onboard FEHI Spa (services additional charge). On all itineraries, the ships stay late or overnight in some of Europe’s most captivating towns and cities, so guests can immerse in authentic cultures and the destination’s social life. Throughout, every member of Riverside’s exceptional staff and crew deliver intuitive and personalized service for an all-inclusive and luxurious experience.

On board, guests enjoy butler service in every suite; gourmet cuisine made with high-quality, fresh ingredients a la minute; included premium wines and spirits; complimentary StarLink broadband Wi-Fi; included shore excursions in every port to immerse in Europe’s history, cultures and landmarks; prepaid gratuities for crew and guides/drivers on land; and complimentary ground transfers. Riverside Luxury Cruises is a winner in Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards for 2024 and Cruise Critic’s 2023 and 2024 Editors’ Pick Award for Best Dining in the River Category.
