Iconic Palm Beach Landmark Closing After Almost 100 Years
By GERRY BARKER
North Palm Beach Life August 19, 2022 It opened in 1926. It will close in a matter of weeks. Earlier this year, it was announced The Chesterfield, a Palm Beach institution and historic landmark located at 363 Cocoanut Row, had been sold to the British billionaire Reuben Brothers for $42 million. Come Labor Day, the hotel and its trademark Leopard Lounge will be closed, signaling the start of a renovation that could last up to two years. It's painful to think the Leopard Lounge, our favorite spot for happy hour, with its tropical courtyard, red painted ceiling, leopard-print carpet, black lacquer, dark woods and leather seating, will be no more. Not to mention losing our favorite mixologist, Heather. Say it ain't so! But alas, it is. Yes, it will be gone soon -- just a few years shy of the century mark -- but certainly not forgotten.
