Dropping spare change at TJ Maxx, is something I do with regularity. Sometimes they have a plethora of fashion goods unworthy of the mainstream retailers (they still exist, barely).
Oh, I can spend many clock ticks perusing the newest, the clearance racks and the shoes. However, the section they donned, The Runway, has always been a little cut above the random racks. It has always held the quirky, the gorgeous, the things the rich-types have passed over, but they are still designer labeled, and ready to help one make a fashion statement (some times it works, some times it is an epic fail...but still fun). Imagine my shock and dismay when my rain-soaked self (yes, it is still the rainy season, and I got rained on) stopped in my tracks when spying this garment which defies description or definition. WHAT is that horrid garment meant to represent? WHO would spend cold cash to own it? TJ Maxx, your The Runway section has some serious explaining to do. No, it's too late, I will never think of you in the same way.

As a lover of the sea, especially the azure salt water of South Florida, it has long been my philosophy that my affection is enjoyed from the shore, or with a glass of champagne in my hand while lounging on an oceanliner. In other words, it is not at all necessary to be IN the water to ENJOY the water.
Come on, the sea belongs to the mysterious creatures dwelling within. Let's be honest here, they don't barge into our homes bringing all sorts of chaos, so why should we invade their peaceful domiciles? From the comfort of the cool, soft sand, Gerry and Cate enjoy the fierce, crashing waves of the Atlantic, Listen, if you know me, you know I love fashion. Plus, I have always had an affection for that zany explorer, Ponce de Leon. Was he seeking the fabled, Fountain of Youth? Probably more like excessive wealth and supreme power. Whatever his true motivations, he did know one thing...how to dress. I mean look at him. That outfit would work very well in La Florida (his name for Florida)
I mean if you are going to explore the Atlantic coastline of South Florida to the Keys and beyond, you MUST look the part, don't you agree? Although I do wonder about his leg adornments. What is going on there? Are we looking at a complex system of layering? Are they pants and shorts with socks thrown in? It is very confusing, but as I layer-dress for comfort in the climes of So-Flo- I get his motivation. So, I tip my fedora to, Ponce. Living the La Florida lifestyle is pretty cool...no matter how you chose to dress. So, when living in the beauty of the Palm Beaches begins to bore us, it is just a hop and skip down to Fort Lauderdale. This time we dropped anchor at a groovy, old-school place called, The Drift. The coolness factor was even cooler as Gerry sipped a libation.
What better way to launch a virtual Junk Drawer than tossing in this photo of our bottle of Veuve Clicquot, Rose Champagne. The exact opposite of junk!
Although this French brand was founded in 1772, it's seen in scores of films, is quite famous. I only discovered it in 2007. Now, it is my absolute favorite. As usual, I am late to the party. But, better late, as the saying goes. Typically, we purchase the champagne, not the Rose version. It is not readily available, so when it was, we grabbed it. Wait, we grabbed it, then PAID for it! The history of Clicquot is rich, and deep, with the oldest known unopened bottle having been discovered in 2008 in a sideboard inside a castle in Scotland. In pristine condition, having been preserved in the dark, it now rests in the Clicquot museum in Reims, France. Back home, as it should be. Bottles have been discovered in shipwrecks, AND it is mentioned in Downton Abbey, Series 6, Episode 1. Cheers! |
