By GERRY and PAMELA BARKER
North Palm Beach Life Published April, 2020 We have left Chicago and are now en route to Washington DC on Amtrak's Capitol Limited. It's a journey of over 760 miles. Along the way, we'll pass through Fort Wayne, Indiana, Toledo and Cleveland, Ohio, Pittsburgh and Harper's Ferry, Maryland. Most of the trip is overnight, but by morning we are traveling through the Maryland countryside, where the hills around us are ablaze with late October fall foliage at its finest. Take a look: |

Passing through the Maryland countryside...
Our route took us through historic Harper's Ferry, (lower left). Located at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers, where Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia meet, it was the site of attempted slave revolt in 1859. During the Civil War, northernmost point of Confederate-controlled territory.
