We spent the night in Tucumcari, New Mexico -- a stop on the historic Route 66. The weather was much cooler than what we were used to in Florida. |

The authentic Mexican food was delicious, and it came with a bonus: All the booths featured hand-painted images of customers, and the artist himself was working that night. |

His name is Doug Quarles, and he painted not only the booths but large murals across the restaurant and bar areas. The heads are taken from the wait staff and even the owners. We were impressed!

Soon it was time to say goodbye to Doug and the Lizard Lounge and hit the road to Arizona!
