What happens when a seventeen-year-old high school girl goes to work as Hostess at Red Lobster, at that time a Darden Restaurant enterprise?
Well, if your name is Claudia Cook you get promoted to restaurant manager at the age of 21, and continue upward to have a successful career in the hospitality industry. You move up the ranks while moving from Darden to Panera Bread, to her current position as the General Manager at Sandpiper's Cove in North Palm Beach.
Born in Rhode Island to French Canadian parents, who were supportive of her decision to stick with her career, Ms. Cook not only manages duties at Sandpiper, but is mother to a sixteen-year-old daughter.
When asked the secret to her success, the very first thing Ms. Cook said was, "I have worked with some fantastic people, who taught me so much."
Obviously a subscriber to working as a team, Ms. Cook, praised past co-workers and managers, as well as her current company and staff.
Managing Sandpiper's Cove Restaurant and Bar, available to members and their guests, located inside the gated community of Old Port Cove Marina, presents a few unique challenges, but nothing too major, according to Ms. Cook.
Cove Marina residents are automatically members, and non-residents can pay a yearly fee of $250 to join. Interested persons can contact Marketing Manager Kerri Paizzi to arrange a tour of the facility and enjoy a meal (food and drinks are on you, not part of the tour), while admiring the scenic views.
The Wheelhouse Dining Room and The Sand Bar (happy hour is from 3 pm to 7 pm) are open seven-days-per-week for regular dining, but never letting things get dull, Ms. Cook and staff strive for creativity by offering a variety of special events throughout the year. Plus, their waterside location provides a lovely setting for your own event or ceremony.
If you are too busy for a sit-down dinner and drink, or need rations for your boat outing, Sandpiper Cove Express offers a gourmet food, coffee, and supplies.
The upcoming New Year's Eve Black & White Gala will kick-start 2016, and Ms. Cook promises more top-notch food and service. Executive Chef Bruno Martin, will continue to conjure up new menu offerings, and every Thursday, beginning in January, live-music will keep things rolling.
One would think she gets her fill of things food-related, but in her down-time, Ms. Cook, a self-proclaimed, 'home-body," enjoys staying in, cooking and watching her favorite shows on The Food Network -- Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and Chopped.
Check out their webpage, give them a call, take a tour ... the food, service and views are hidden gems in North Palm Beach.

"Claudia Cook was my first manager at Red Lobster and really set the tone for what a great manager can do with a team. She was outstanding and because of her the house was packed with guests every night! I can't say that I am surprised to have read this article about her. It really doesn't say much about her work ethic and dedication. She goes above and beyond and never fails to lead by example. Great Job Claudia!" -- N. David
