A Green Oasis in the Midst of Brickell Skyscapers
By GERRY and PAMELA BARKER
North Palm Beach Life July, 2019. MIAMI_ On our never-ending quest to find the best Happy Hours, a name popped up that caught our attention: "Delores But You Can Call Me Lolita." Okay, you got us -- we have to see what that's all about. Located in the Brickell Financial District, in another lifetime it was formerly Fire Station No. 4. This from their website: "Built in 1923 ... in the popular Mediterranean Revival style of the era at that time. The Architect, H. Hasting Mundy, built this classic design with a two-story hipped roof, arcaded porch, stucco walls, and unique balconies. This whimsical building is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places." You would never know it. The owners have transformed the space into a sensory delight, from the artsy, somewhat whimsical decor that greets you upon entering to the lushly landscaped rooftop patio. About that name: We learned the dining areas and bar downstairs are the "Lolita" spaces, while upstairs is "Delores." Up or down, you can't go wrong if you'll looking for to score Latin fusion food or like we did, a Happy Hour retreat. Let's take a closer look: |
For Happy Hour, specialty cocktails are half off the regular price of $14, as are a selection of beers.
|
Pam ordered "Whatever Lola Wants," a combo of Grey Goose vodka, St. Germain and Moet Champagne (in the martini glass above), while I went with a "Passion Mule" -- orange vodka, ginger beer, lime juice and passion fruit puree. Two thumbs up!
|
The menu offers a wide range of Latin-inspired dishes, including this Ham Croquette appetizer. Billed as "the best you've ever had," we couldn't disagree.
|
We loved this special box where you're invited to deposit your cell phones. We have to get one for our place.
|
The views are great from every table.

While enjoying our drinks, a sudden storm with blowing wind and rain hit. No problem -- the wait staff moved
us to another table. Like most Miami afternoon weather events, it didn't last long.
