View an Art Masterpiece Up Close and Personal
By GERRY BARKER
North Palm Beach Life Published March 10,2022 Even if you've visited The Vatican and seen Michelangelo's magnificent Sistine Chapel frescos in person, prepare to see them again in a whole new way. From March 11 through April 24, "Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition" will make its only Southeast appearance at the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach. At today's special media preview, dignitaries, including West Palm Beach Mayor Keith James, were on hand for a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Reproduced in high-definition photos on 34 panels, each was printed by a special process that mimics the originals. And unlike the originals, visitors are free to take photos or videos. Mounted along the walls and ceiling, each has accompanying text that provides details on what you are viewing. Additionally, you can opt for an audio that provides "behind the scenes" facts about the works. It should also be noted what you are viewing are the restored original versions as Michelangelo painted them, presented 80 percent of their original size. Tickets are priced at $20.
