CUBA!
June 29. That's a date that Terry Thornton, Carnival Cruise Line's Senior VP of Fleet Deployment, has had circled on his calendar for a long time.
That's the day Carnival Paradise departs Tampa for Havana, Cuba, the first of 12 scheduled departures to the Caribbean destination that's been off-limits to Americans for half a century. "It's been a long process," said Thornton, "a learning experience for both the Cuban government and Carnival. Good things take time, but they're worth it."

Ocean Pines Motel
MELBOURNE BEACH_ We were on a mission: Find an ocean-front getaway that was not too far and pet-friendly. Sounds easy. It wasn't. Our first stop was Google. Google led us to TripAdvisor. And TripAdvisor led us to ... the Ocean Pines Motel in Melbourne Beach.
Located on S. Highway A1A, it's definitely old-school Florida: A tourist court with six, kitchen-equipped, one and two-bedroom units. But what it may lack in pizazz it more than makes up in friendly and inviting. And the location is a knockout -- mere steps away from one of the most beautiful beaches in Florida.

Open for Business in North Palm: Florida Freedivers
When Frank Smith goes fishing, he doesn't pack a rod and reel and tackle box. His gear of choice is a wetsuit and speargun. And instead of a scuba tank, he simply holds his breath.
Smith is among the thousands of devotees who practice freediving, or breath hold diving, along with his other passion, spearfishing. And both are not only his passions, but also his job. Smith works for Florida Freedivers at their newly opened location, 633 Northlake in North Palm Beach. Formerly the location of The Camera Store, its bright aqua-and-white exterior is classic Florida.

Artificial Reefs Create a Win-Win for Wildlife and Water Sports
Over her life, the ship Ana Cecilia experienced both fame and infamy. Once a cargo ship used by cocaine smugglers in Miami, she also was the first cargo ship to visit Cuba in 2012 after a 50-year embargo. This month, she went to her final glory. On July 13, the Ana Cecilia was sunk in 85 feet of water off Lake Worth Inlet to become the newest artificial reef in the Palm Beaches.
The waters off Palm Beach County now host over 150 of these man-made reefs, and that's a good thing, according to Chuck Collins, Executive Director for the Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County.

Blue-Green Algae: Symptom of Much Larger Issues
It's not every day that algae tops the news. But when the algae is potentially toxic and causing havoc on Florida's normally pristine beaches, that's news. Such was the case earlier this month when a gooey mass of blue-green algae invaded the beaches around St. Lucie and Martin County, and for a brief time, closed some beaches in Palm Beach County as well.
Chuck Collins, Executive Director of the Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County, talks about the factors behind the algae problem. READ MORE.
