A good place to start is the Information Desk, where you get tickets and learn about the museum
One of the first things you'll see are dozens of boats in every shape, size and color suspended from the ceiling, a work by Hew Locke entitled, "For Those in Peril on the Sea." As a kid, I loved to make models, but nothing like this!

Something we loved was the size of the galleries. The open spaces allow for just about any size art to be displayed.

As lovers of abstract art (Pam is an abstract artist in her own right),
this was one of our favorite pieces.

One of the more intriguing exhibits is "while the dew is still on the roses," by Jamaican-born artist Ebony G. Patterson. Visitors enter the world of the "Night Garden," complete with chirping insects. It features video as well as large-scale, intricate tapestries created from beads, glitter and other mixed media elements. The exhibit will be at the Perez through May 5. |
This exhibit is "Grids," by artist Lynne Golob Gelfman. One thing we liked are the takeaway fact sheets, in both English and Spanish, available about the artist and the works on display.
It's a broken piano, scattered pieces of china, tiny figurines and countless other objects large and small. Artist Liliana Porter's "Man with an axe and other brief situations" is one
of the museum's most complex works. You know every piece,
regardless of size, tells an important part of the whole story.

"The Bite"
There is a video on exhibit from Pedro Neves Marques -- "The Bite." A combination of science fiction and social commentary, it's a fascinating foray into "gender militarization and its transgression." The atmospheric music, produced by London-based musician Fraencis, keeps you waiting for a "jump scare" and definitely lends an eeriness to the visuals. With its mature themes, probably not for young ones. |
The museum's terrace and outdoor spaces is a work
of art in itself. We grabbed a chair and just chilled out.

If you are just visiting or a resident, a trip to the Perez Art Museum Miami
should be on your "to do" list. We'll be coming back here soon!
