Carnival Celebrates Newest Ship

When it comes to triggering memories, they say smell is the most powerful of the senses. Respondents to a recent Carnival Cruise Line survey agree: 95 percent said smells evoke vacation memories, while 56 percent were motivated by smell to plan a vacation.

​So it makes "scents" that Carnival is celebrating the upcoming debut of its newest ship, Carnival Horizon, by sharing cans of scented air from the Caribbean islands Horizon will visit. The promotion also underscores that after the recent hurricanes, the Caribbean is fully "open for fun."

Our shipment of cans included "Island Coconut" (collected on Cozumel), "Wild Banana Orchid" (Grand Cayman) and "Fresh Guavaberry" (St. Marteen). We gave them all the "smell test," captured on the video above.

If you happen to be in New York, where Horizon will make its debut voyage next April, on Dec. 12-13, there will be an interactive experience from 12 pm to 6 pm each day at Greeley Square. As a steel drum band plays, vending machines will dispense free cans of aroma and visitors can register for a free Carnival cruise.
