LET'S MOTOR WITH SCOOBIE. Sometimes you want to get-away without really going away, right? Me, too. So, how amazing can an adventure be in a few measly hours, in a 10-mile radius? I got on it, and my master plan went a little something like this.
Meet Scoobie

Typically, Saturday mornings open with us digging into breakfast, outdoors, with someone else doing the cooking.
So, when a restaurant offers casual outdoor dining, great food, service and location, can it get any better?
Why, yes it can.
At family-owned Juno Beach Café, on U. S. Hwy 1, the staff makes the difference, and one person in particular has continued to catch our attention for the past few months. You could think it is her name, Scoobie.
Well, that is only partially it.

It's all good, but she highly recommends "Uncle Eddie's Pancakes,"
Sometimes there are people so filled with smiles, so engaging, so welcoming you can not help but take notice.
Personally, I am not such a morning person, as I tend to take an easy slide into the day. But, when we are seated in Scoobie's area, and she arrives at our table, I perk up and become almost human-like.
Needing to know more about this woman, I sat down, after-hours (thank you, owners, Don and Mary Ann Ganim) at Juno Beach Cafe for a little chat.
Here is what I discovered:
Scoobie (real name, Sue) was given the moniker by her father. Yes, it had to do with her favorite cartoon.
Before moving to South Florida over one year ago, she and her husband owned the Ashburn Pub in Ashburn, VA. Having sold it to their partner, the restaurant still thrives, but now I better understand Scoobie's attitude. She "gets" customer service.
Although her husband has Florida ties, it was through a family reunion in this area that Scoobie saw the sun, sand, and surf of So-Flo, and realized this was the place to be. To quote her, "It just had a really good vibe." A mere months later, they were here to stay.
Scoobie is all about family, and proudly has strong ties to the military. Her handsome son (I saw photos) serves in the Army, and her stunningly gorgeous niece is a Marine!

Having a true love of the outdoor life, she bikes, runs and paddle boards. Three to four days a week, you will also find her, camera in hand, snapping the sunrise over the Atlantic photos while hanging out with, what she referred to as, the Sunrise Guys (others who watch or photograph the early morning waves near the pier).
Although she contributes some of her photos, primarily reflecting the South Florida lifestyle, to the Juno Beach Café Facebook page (check it out), her love of photography is expanding and, in the future, some of her work will be on display at the restaurant.
So, if you are in the area of U. S. Hwy 1 and Donald Ross, look for the green canopy that says, Juno Beach Café. Not only can you sit outside and people watch, the food is excellent and you can say "hi" to Scoobie.
The only difficulty you could have? It's popular and at peak hours there could be a short wait; and deciding what to order for breakfast or lunch.
It's all good, but she highly recommends "Uncle Eddie's Pancakes," "Banana Nut Bread French Toast," to really get your day going, and the "Best" grilled cheese (garlic buttered Sourdough bread coated with Parmesan and filled with provolone, Swiss and American) for that lunch/late lunch pick-me-up!
If there is one thing Scoobie Eckert wants you to know about her as she embarks on each day..."Smiling is contagious. It can change a day for you or someone else."
Yes, it can!
