PALM BEACH GARDENS _ It just wouldn't be Halloween without the annual Trinity United Methodist Church Pumpkin Patch.

Each year they transform the church grounds into a fall festival, featuring row upon row of pumpkins in all shapes and sizes. Pumpkins are priced according to size, starting at $2. It's fun for all ages, and will definitely put you in the spirit of the Fall season, even in the presence of swaying palms. 

Our granddaughter, Cate, loved every minute. Almost 4 years old, she didn't want to ride in the wagon ... she wanted to pull it. 

The church is located at 9625 N. Military Tr., not far from Northlake Blvd. Hours are Monday-Thursday, 9 am to 5 pm, and Friday, 9 am -- 12 am. Call for more information: 561-622-5278, ext. 127.

• The practice of carving pumpkins for Halloween originated from an Irish myth about a man named "Stingy Jack". . . Not until 1837, does jack-o'-lantern appear as a term for a carved vegetable lantern, and the carved pumpkin lantern association with Halloween is recorded in 1866.
• As one of the most popular crops in the United States, 1.5 billion pounds of pumpkins are produced each year. The top pumpkin-producing states include Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and California.
• "Giant pumpkins" are a large squash  that can exceed 1 ton (2,000 pounds) in weight.
