LG Debuts New Outdoor Display at Seatrade

One of the mainstays of modern cruise ships is "Movies Under the Stars," where guests are invited to curl up in a lounger on the pool deck and take in a movie on a giant display screen. But unlike the large-screen TVs in homes, outdoor screens are subject to all the elements, not to mention being surrounded by salt water and its corrosive effects. 

The answer to keeping those screens bright and shiny was unveiled at the just-concluded Seatrade Cruise Global, where LG Business Solutions debuted their new LG GNEB series for outdoor use on cruise ships.

At the LG booth, Gianni Restaino, vice president of engineering and advanced product development, talked about how the direct-view, LED display is designed for maximum brightness, both day and night. At the same time, it utilizes a marine-grade powder coating that protects it against salt water corrosion.

Restaino demonstrated how modular the new display is, which can be configured to virtually any size. And to show how it functions in any environment, a marine-grade module was submerged at the booth in water, where the display was the same, wet or dry.​

Other LG products showcased include their Transparent LED Film display, which can transform glass surfaces, such as windows and doors, into displays, and back again from last year was their CLOi ServeBot, a hospitality delivery robot that awaits your bidding.

Sounds like the perfect complement to an outdoor movie. 'CLOi, bring me a martini."
