By GERRY BARKER North Palm Beach Life Recently, Sotheby’s Palm Beach and Silversea hosted a special reception for "Contemporary & Modern Masters; An exhibition showcasing the artists that shaped the twentieth century and beyond" in Palm Beach. On view through Jan. 7, Sotheby's notes "this selling exhibition features an exceptional selection of paintings, works on paper and sculpture that highlight the rich history and significant innovation characteristic of this period in art history." Featured artists include Georgia O’Keeffe, Willem de Kooning, Joan Mitchell and Andy Warhol, Silversea is well known in the cruise industry for the artwork on their ships. Cinzia Amadio, Silversea's Senior Vice President Global Marketing, represented the cruise line at the reception and talked with North Palm Beach Life about their partnership with Sotheby's. ![]() Q. How and why did Silversea decide to partner with this event? Silversea found Sotheby’s to be a perfect fit since our guests and their clients share very similar interests. They are a worldly group of people who love to discover, enjoy, and learn about the most beautiful things in life. Both Silversea and Sotheby’s share a forward-thinking spirit of innovation. Q. What is the role art plays on your ships? Silversea’s art program has multiple levels. The program creates deeper and more meaningful connections for our guests through art. For example, our Galapagos ship, Silver Origin has a 195-piece art collection of 122 framed artworks, 69 sculptures and four installations. These pieces show the rich history of travel in the Galapagos. But the real crown jewel is Silver Nova, which has nearly 1,800 works of art -– the most we’ve had on any ship so far (Read more about Silver Nova's art collection HERE.) Each suite corridor is dedicated to a different geographical region. For example you’ll find artworks focused on Africa on deck 8 and Asia on deck 7. My personal favorite is a dreamy look at the sea and sky by Albanian artist Artur Sula. It was hand painted with 24K gold leaf covering over 280 square feet. It's beautiful. You can find it on the ceiling of the library on Deck 10. Q. Do you have plans for other similar events going forward? Silversea also partnered with Sotheby’s on events in New York, Geneva and London. We will have more news for 2024 soon. Q. Tell us about yourself and your role at Silversea. I have worked with Silversea for more than eight years and have seen the brand become the leader in ultra-luxury cruising. I am originally from Italy but have made Miami my new home where I love to explore the local art scene and galleries. Storytelling is my passion. With Silversea, I am able to tell its story in many ways. I oversee the global marketing efforts as senior vice president of marketing, which include increasing brand awareness and forming partnerships that are aligned with our luxury offerings, such as Sotheby’s. We also have long-term, solid partnerships with the Royal Geographical Society and photographer Steve McCurry. Reception Slideshow Photos by Gerry Barker Comments are closed.
