Who doesn't love a good donut? Whether you spell it "doughnut" or "donut," these little bundles of confectionary bliss come in all flavors and sizes. As longtime afficionadoes, we are always on the hunt for the latest and greatest, which this week led us to downtown West Palm Beach and The Salty. West Palm is Salty's newest location, which also includes Miami -- where it got its start -- Tampa, Orlando, Atlanta, Dallas, Austin and Charlotte. Founded from a camper popup in Miami's Wynwood district in 2014, Amanda Pizarro and Andy Rodriguez wanted a "community gathering place centered around donuts, coffee, and good vibes." Sounds good -- let's check it out. Located at 460 S. Rosemary, the good smells pull you inside, where you'll a find an assortment of donuts and baked goods. We, of course, were zeroed in on the former, and took our time surveying the shelves. It was mid-day, and many of the most popular varieties were sold out. The menu includes Peanut Butter and Jelly, Guava and Cheese, Tiramisu, Pina Colada and White Chocolate Tres Leches, among others -- new flavors are added weekly. I finally decided on getting the last Brown Butter and Salt they had, while Pam tried their glazed donut holes, which also include cinnamon sugar and Oreo cake.
I found the texture distinct from other donuts, partly because they use brioche as a base. The icing was yummy, and one is big enough to split. The oversized donut holes were delicious as well. Another visit is in order, and this time we'll get there early while there's still a big selection. --Gerry Barker Comments are closed.
