The zen oasis will showcase a plethora of adult and family-friendly programming, including the new art exhibit, Behind the Wall: Visions of the Asian Experience in America, featuring powerful works by five legendary Japanese and Asian American mural artists. Behind the Wall runs May 7 through September 25, 2022. 

Throughout May, the museum is rolling out a to-do list of cultural endeavours, from sumi-e ink painting and the verdant beauty of bonsai to ikebana, the refined art of Japanese floral arrangement. Curator Spotlight: Meet Wendy Lo, the Morikami Museum's distinguished curator of education. Wendy received her Master's of Arts in Asian Studies from Florida International University, and has studied and sojourned extensively throughout Japan. She began her career at the Morikami in 2009, and has dramatically expanded the public's knowledge of Japanese culture since her curatorial appointment in 2014. Today, Wendy spearheads world-class educational initiatives, docent and adult outreach programming, and oversees the award-winning Stroll for Well-Being, a therapeutic wellness program which immerses participants in the peace and serenity of the Japanese gardens.

West Palm Beach, FL – YMCA of the Palm Beaches (YMCA) has finalized an agreement with the Palm Beach County (PBC) Board of County Commissioners that authorizes the YMCA to lease approximately five acres in Lake Lytal Park from the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department (PBC Parks) for 50 years with one 50-year extension option. Her portrait series How They Changed Our Lives: Senators as Working People is in the Library of Congress archives, and her work is featured in the Eli Broad Collection and the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African American History. She is currently co-producing a musical based on the life of pop icon Andy Warhol, along with music manager Steve Leber, director Trevor Nunn, and writer/composer Rupert Holmes.

(PRESS RELEASE)_BOCA RATON, FL (April 19, 2022) – Nine-year-old Julia and seven-year-old Daphne Edgarde of Boca Raton, students at Donna Klein Jewish Academy, started piano lessons three years ago after attending The Symphonia’s ‘Meet the Orchestra.' The program invites families to attend an orchestra rehearsal followed by an ‘instrument petting zoo,’ allowing the kids to interact with the musicians and the instruments they play. 
 
Last year, the girls combined their newfound love of classical music with their love of giving back (they are active in their school’s Philanthropy for Kids in Action program), and created ‘Pennies for Piano,’ a virtual recital for friends and family to help raise funds for The Symphonia and the International Alliance for Women in Music.
 
Each girl performed seven classical music selections, followed by a performance of an original composition the two wrote for the event. Throughout the recital, the girls shared the number of notes played during each song, and suggested the audience give one penny for each note. The recital raised $500 for The Symphonia.
 
“I’m ecstatic that they’re becoming fluent in the language of music,” said Seth Edgarde, the girls’ father. “It’s something of a lacuna in a modern education, so I’m very happy that they are able to use their passion to further music education right here in our community.”
 
Since the recital, the sisters have challenged themselves to practice piano every day for 500 straight days. At The Symphonia’s season finale performance on Sunday, April 24, Julia and Daphne will celebrate reaching their goal by meeting world-renowned conductor Alastair Willis and former child prodigy, pianist Lindsay Garritson.

(PRESS RELEASE)_April 21, 2022 (Jupiter, Fla.) — Paris Ballet and Dance is bringing the spellbinding magic of Cinderella to the Kravis Center!

The dancers of Paris Ballet — the prestigious Jupiter school founded by former international professional dancer Jean-Hugues Feray in 2009 — will present the beloved ballet for one night only on the mainstage of The Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, May 15, at 8 p.m.

A timeless rags-to-riches love story, the ballet tells the tale of Cinderella, a young girl who is saved by a magical fairy godmother. Set to Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev’s unforgettable score, the ballet will feature exhilarating choreography by Feray, dazzling costumes, colorful sets and showcase the talents of many young dancers.

With the full performance of Cinderella filling Act I, Act II will be comprised of variations from the school’s most advanced dancers. The 12th anniversary show will close with an exclusive performance by international ballet stars Nicole Graniero and Brooklyn Mack dancing Marius Petipa’s enthralling and unforgettable Le Corsaire Pas de Deux.

While Paris Ballet has often performed in the Kravis Center’s Rinker Playhouse, this marks the first time the school’s students will perform on the mainstage: Dreyfoos Hall. This holds special meaning for Feray, who danced professionally for many years on that stage during his years with the original Ballet Florida.

A fundraiser for MCCPB, the outdoor concert will be at 7 pm in the event field by the church, located at 4857 Northlake Boulevard in Palm Beach Gardens. Attendees should feel free to bring a lawn chair or blanket, and there will be a food truck onsite.
 
The concert will offer the music of the extraordinary Lauren Daigle, a winner of two GRAMMY® Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards, and four American Music Awards. Her platinum debut album, How Can It Be, produced three number one songs (First, O’Lord, and Trust in You), while the GRAMMY-winning second album Look Up Child featured her triple-platinum smash You Say, the longest-running No. 1 song to appear on any weekly Billboard chart, as well as the platinum selling single Rescue, and gold certified singles Still Rolling Stones and Look Up Child.
