(PRESS RELEASE)_(West Palm Beach, FL – December 18, 2023) Rebecca Doane, President of Friends of the Mounts Botanical Garden, and Ron Rice, Extension Director for Palm Beach County, today announced a major change in the leadership team of Mounts Botanical Garden, Palm Beach County’s oldest and largest botanical garden. Rochelle Wolberg, the longtime Curator-Director at Mounts, has resigned to accept the executive leadership position at McKee Botanical Gardens in Vero Beach, FL.
“Rochelle Wolberg has been a major asset to the growth and development of Mounts Botanical Garden over the last decade, and she will be greatly missed,” said Doane. “Under her skillful direction the Garden—a beautiful 20-acre paradise located just minutes from downtown West Palm Beach—has opened several popular permanent attractions including Windows on the Floating World, the Garden of Tranquility, Moai at Mounts, and more, as well as such amazing exhibitions as Nature Connects: Art with LEGO® Bricks, Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea, Garden of Lights, two extraordinary Stickwork structures by international artist Patrick Daugherty, Ribbit The Exhibit featuring 23 fanciful frogs, and the upcoming ORIGAMI AT THE GARDEN, which opens on January 7.” “At the same time, Wolberg has greatly expanded the educational outreach at Mounts with such student-friendly programs as Nature Camp, Ambassador of Wetlands, Garden-to-Go, Mounts Sensory Sensitivity Backpacks, along with dozens of fun and informative healthy classes, horticultural workshops, and plant sales,” added Rice. “Plus, she deserves great credit for assembling the strongest working and creative staff in the Garden’s history, opening the new Welcome Center & Gift Shop, expanding community relationships, partnering with Bloomberg Connects on its Mobile Garden Guide, and launching our critical new strategic plan.” “Certainly, Rochelle leaves Mounts Botanical in a very strong position for continued growth, and we sincerely thank her for her many contributions during her time here and wish her the best of luck in her new adventure. Cooperative Extension Director Ron Rice, with support from the Board, will oversee the process of filling this position. We are confident that the Mounts team will make this a smooth transition for all of our visitors, community partners, and supporters,” concludes Doane. “Until the new Curator-Director is hired, Mounts Botanical Garden will be under the daily direction of Operations Manager Marc Birch and Misty Stoller, Associate Director of Marketing & Communications.” Mounts Botanical Garden & Bloomberg Connects Explore Anytime, Anywhere with New Mobile Garden Guide Visitors can now explore Mounts Botanical Garden anytime from anywhere across the globe with the new Mobile Garden Guide.
