Art Exhibit Explores 'Infinite Existence'

(PRESS RELEASE)_March 2, 2023 (Lake Worth Beach, Fla.) -- Jupiter-based professional artist Etheard Joseph wants to draw visitors into his universe with his immersive work.

And in a stunning exhibition of distinctive large-scale abstract paintings that will soon be on display at the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County, he hopes to do just that.

An exhibition of Joseph’s work will take place March 17 through April 29 in the Cultural Council’s Solo Gallery at its downtown Lake Worth Beach headquarters. Free and open to the public, exhibition hours are Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.

A multidisciplinary artist, Joseph’s artistic work includes assemblage, collage, illustration, painting, photography, videography and sculptural work, but this exhibition — titled Infinite Existence — will focus on his sweeping, expressive paintings. Painted in vivid colors that convey his emotions, thoughts and dreams, Joseph uses his own lexicon of shapes, colors and hidden symbols to communicate through abstract images.

“Etheard’s work is bright and colorful, and his energy and personality shine through in his work,” said Jessica Ransom, the Cultural Council’s director of artist services and curator of the exhibition. “His paintings are vibrant, enthralling and immersive due to the large scale."

​Selected through a highly competitive application process, Joseph is one of six Palm Beach County professional artists whose work was chosen by a committee for a coveted Solo Gallery exhibition.

After building a successful art career in New York, Joseph relocated to The Palm Beaches in 2021 and quickly developed a following. In addition to exhibitions across the nation, his work has been seen regionally in the Cultural Council’s 2022 exhibition Gatherings, as well as at Boynton Beach’s City Hall, the New Studio For The Visual Arts in Jupiter, ArtsWarehouse in Delray Beach and the All Florida Juried Art Show in Stuart presented by MartinArts. His work has also been seen at the Armory Faculty Show at the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, where he teaches photography workshops.

“I’m so honored to have my first solo show at the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County,” Joseph said. “The body of work in Infinite Existence examines the idea that we are all infinite and everywhere. It’s about asking why we are here and where and how we fit in. Are there other universes where we could also exist? If so, what would we look like?”

For each of his paintings, Joseph focuses on an individual thought, dream or question and selects shapes and colors that reflect his feelings. He paints on large canvases because he has so much to say, and often paints with brushes, his bare hands and other tools. He infuses meaning into every section of each painting, with sizes that run as large as 6 feet by 15 feet wide.

“Each painting is a story, and some stories have to be told big,” he said. “Ultimately, when a viewer is looking at one of my large-scale paintings, I want them to forget everything else. I want the viewer to experience all of the things I was thinking about when I was creating the painting.”

A popular presence throughout the arts scene in The Palm Beaches, Joseph is the creator and host of the ArtISts Connecting South Florida Project, a bi-weekly YouTube show highlighting creative people across South Florida.

Etheard Joseph: Infinite Existence will run from March 17 through April 29 at the Council’s headquarters in Lake Worth Beach. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
