(PRESS RELEASE)_West Palm Beach, FL (October 4, 2022) – A unique sensory event that brings to light how blind and visually impaired individuals experience art is coming to Palm Beach County on one of the greatest philanthropic evenings of the year – Giving Tuesday, November 29. Art in the Dark, hosted by Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches will include sensory art experiences created by local artists using all senses but SIGHT. Guests will be blindfolded and led by docents from the Norton Museum of Art through four unique sensory rooms: -Auditory/Hearing Experience – Two diverse paintings provided by the Lighthouse ArtCenter Gallery and School of Art and Findlay Galleries, Palm Beach will be interpreted and theatrically described by professional actors from the Palm Beach Shakespeare Festival. -Tactile/Touch Experience – Three different local artists will afford guests the rare opportunity to touch and feel their hand-made art blindfolded – Metal Sculpture Artist Norman Gitzen, 3-D Mosaic Expressionist Deborah Bottorff and glass works from the Benzaiten Center for Creative Arts.
-Olfactory/Smell Experience – Lighthouse Candle and Scent Bar in Jupiter will engage guests with rare botanical fragrances. - Taste Experience – This flavorful tasting experience will showcase how food and drink are indeed an art form and only discerning palettes will be able to identify all the exotic flavors prepared by Fuzeion Catering. The evening will culminate with a SENSORY EXPLOSION that includes food tastings, cocktails, entertainment by visually impaired guitarist Islay Rodriguez and Urban Gypsy and a creative silent auction – all to raise funds for Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches.
