Obon Weekend Time: 10am-5pm Cost: Free with paid admission. Taiko performances are $7 for members, and $10 for non-members. On August 13-14, Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens will host Bon Weekend, its annual event which honors the spirits of one's ancestors. Guests and members are invited to take a tranquil stroll through the Japanese gardens, fill out tanzaku slips in memory of lost loved ones, and pay their respects to founder George Morikami at the Bon altar. Fushu Daiko will also perform their legendary taiko drumming in the spirit of Obon. Taiko performances will be at 11:30am-12pm, 12:30pm-1pm, 2:30pm-3pm, and 3:30pm-4pm. Saturday, August 20 Family Fun: Mountain Day Chigiri-e Time: 12pm – 3pm Cost: FREE for members or with paid museum admission. Chigiri-e is when torn paper is used to make an image. Celebrate Mountain Day, a Japanese holiday to remind us of the importance of the mountains, by making a mountain out of chigiri-e.
