PRESS RELEASE_MIAMI, Fla. – August 2, 2018 – The City of Miami, The Overtown Neighborhood Enhancement Team (N.E.T.) and Brightline, in coordination with a host of other sponsors, will donate more than 600 backpacks filled with school supplies to residents of Overtown on Saturday, August 4 from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. at Gibson Park located at 401 N.W. 12th Street. Students and families who pre-registered with the NET Office can attend the event to receive much-needed supplies as they prepare for the start of a new school year. Backpacks will include items such as composition notebooks, rulers, pencils/pens, folders, highlighters and scissors. Brightline teammates will also be present to hand out information about rail safety and talk to students about how to stay safe around active railroad tracks. The BuzzBoxx will also be at the event to provide complimentary haircuts to children. “I commend Brightline for their continuous support of the Overtown community,” said Commission Chairman Keon Hardemon, City of Miami. “Brightline teammates enjoy giving back and investing in their neighborhood,” said Brightline President Patrick Goddard. “We are happy to partner with Commission Chairman Keon Hardemon and Overtown N.E.T. for the third year to provide students with the resources they need to excel academically, as well as educate them about railroad safety.” Brightline, the only privately funded intercity, express train service in the U.S., connects the communities of Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, with future planned service to Orlando. MiamiCentral, the 11-acre mobility hub where Brightline begins, is located in Overtown and downtown Miami.
