Check Out the Shaving Brush Tree at Mounts

Jan, a volunteer at Mounts Botanical Garden in West Palm Beach, told us about the garden's "Shaving Brush Tree." (North Palm Beach Life photos)

Officially known as Pseudobombax ellipticum, we learned it will only be in bloom for the next two weeks or so. It get its nickname from the seed blooms that resemble a shaving brush. And yes, it feels silky smooth against your skin.

According to Wikipedia, "The attractive flowers are used to decorate homes and churches in Central America, and a highly intoxicating drink is made from the tree."
