Officially known as Pseudobombax ellipticum, we learned it will only be in bloom for the next two weeks or so. It get its nickname from the seed blooms that resemble a shaving brush. And yes, it feels silky smooth against your skin.
According to Wikipedia, "The attractive flowers are used to decorate homes and churches in Central America, and a highly intoxicating drink is made from the tree."
